Strop - Can I use the smooth side of a belt?

Until I do my usual research and select a strop, I was wondering if I could use the smooth side of a brown leather belt that I have hanging in the armoire. What do you all think?

This morning was my first shave with a TAOS Thiers Issard straight razor, and I must say, I'm impressed. Although I need to learn my face and how to hold the razor in certain spots, the spots that were "easy access" so to speak, are incredibly close and comfortable.

Anyway, please advise on the use of a belt. Thanks.

So long as there is no stitching you should have no issues - though a real strop will do the trick much better. If it is really shinny and almost plasticy feeling then try stropping on a few layers of newspaper on a bench until you can get a proper strop.

Make sure you read up on how to strop before you give it a go though, and take it niiiice and slowly with no pressure.

Edit: Hey, post 8888! cool!
