Streak of shaving everyday for 256 days comes to an end

After acquiring my first brush back in February, I have shaved everyday without fail for 256 straight days. That run ended yesterday when I just couldn't manage things. On Tuesday, I had my left shoulder operated on for a torn labrum (but I went to the OR with a smooth face) and just couldn't shave yesterday and today. It's hard enough just washing my face with only one hand free. I will hopefully start working on another streak tomorrow since I have a wedding to attend Friday night and it's going to be bad enough that I can't get into my tux with my wing in a sling without having three days of grey grizzle on my face. Not sure what I'm going to do for my shave since I can't use both hands to make lather. Prolly gonna go with an Arko stick and face lather it. Won't have my left hand free to hold the scuttle or a soap dish nor be able to pull my skin tight. Here's hoping for the best. I've got about four weeks of this to look forward to. I'll have it figured out before then I hope.

Sorry to hear your story :( I don't shave everyday more every 2-3 days as i don't think my skin can handle it hehe! :D

Why don't you attend a barbershop before the wedding if possible. Maybe i haven't thought this out well but you could relax and get the shave done for you :)

Sorry about the streak... you had a good run going. I know the feeling though, but not for medical/injury issue reasons. I used to never shave on weekends until I started DE shaving in March. The run went until July when I went camping... I brought my shaving gear nicely packed in a Dopp bag, but the only water I could use was from a spicket on the road to the campsite or in the public bathrooms, both of which was recommended not to drink well water... which made me nervous for my skin, shaving brush, etc. I thought about bringing my shaving gear to a restaurant or something, but that was just not feasible. The wife gave me some evil side-eye glare when I suggested using the bottled drinking water to shave with. Ah well. Since then I usually let sundays go to 'rest' the skin.

Good luck with the wedding though... that's a rough situation all around. The barber shave is a good idea. If you have an Art of Shaving store in a mall near you, they have master barbers that come in and do straight shaves, but I think it's a little pricey. Probably worth it though for a close shave in your situation. Good luck!

If you can't make the lather, consider using a thin layer of canned goo. Barbasol is pretty decent.

Do you have a SO that could make lather for you?

I went with the Arko plan. The three day growth let the Arko stick deposit a lot of soap on my face. The lather it made was excellent and I got a really close, comfortable shave despite only having one usable hand. I've applied Arko like this in the past, but haven't been able to build this good of a lather. I get better results loading it from a chunk that I mashed into a dish. I think the extra stubble allowed me to get "more product" on my face and build some really great lather. I actually didn't mind that great Arko smell either. I may be on the way to becoming an Arkolyte.

While not drinkable, I'm sure it's ok to shave with. I go camping into PA every july/august and the same recommendations are made to not drink the water, but shaving with it is perfectly OK. Not the easiest to build a lather in, but hey, you make do. It is camping, after all. lol

Broke my streak last weekend of September on a 4 trip to Smyrna GA,left the Chicago area clean shaven, shaved everyday at the convention (Anime Weekend Atlanta)but didn't want to pack a damp brush into my Dopp kit for the drive home starting at 0'dark:30 Sunday AM so I went scruffy from Saturday night on and first thing on waking Monday AM was to whip up a batch of lather and get clean shaven once again,

After just getting Arko for the first time the other day, I say definitely go this route and face lather. I'm in love with face lathering now!

Sorry about the surgery though! Hope the recovery is speedy!
