Straight Razor ID help?

I suppose in hanging around this forum one is bound to end up venturing into uncharted areas. My mom, knowing of my interest in safety razors, saw a lot of razors at an auction. She picked it up for me and it included two straight razors. I have no idea what they are or what they might be worth. It's a pretty cool looking set. Does anybody have any details on these razors or what they might be worth? I don't see any brand mentioned on them, but there is a design on a portion of the blade.

Also, I've been an exclussive safety razor user, but have considered venturing into straights. Would these even be worth restoring? I would guess one of them is beyond restore worthy because there are so many chips in the edge. But one isn't too bad. Any ideas?

Those scales are pretty common. I had a razor that had them but they didn't have the wedge end pinned. And that marking on the tang is pretty common too.

The blades look pretty chipped, but those can be honed out. I have a no-name
with similar markings that has become one of my favorite shavers.

If nothing else, that's a pretty nice looking set.

As for using them as first razors, my personal opinion is that round point razors are easy to use. That doesn't mean you can't learn on them, you need to pay attention to where the point is.

I'm not honemeister or anyone with a credible experience to restore a straight.

I think they are both save-able. The chips are a bit deep in he second one but I'm confident they can be honed out. The blade will be a bit smaller.

The logo on the decorated tang looks a bit like Bengall but I only saw stamped Bengalls no etched Bengalls... I have no clue which company that is...

In my opinion (and I am certainly new to straights) there would be quite a bit of restoration work involved with restoring those blades. If you are already committing to having work done on the blades, I don't think it would be that difficult to round off the square point into a round point.

The chips aren't an issue. For the second razor the greater concern is the corrosion above the chips. Basically one would have to hone away the edge until getting into good steel along the entire length of the blade.

Both of those blades are certainly salvageable and can be made to look and work great. Personally, I would not alter the points.

You can always take it away, but you can never put it back.

You should speak with one of the in the know straight guys like Thirdeye who can give you some sound advice.
They look nice to me, just be careful with that point if you do ever shave with them, it only takes a moment of inattention and it's "ow, my ear!"
