Straight No. 1640?

Hi!
Anyone knows something about this straight?
$1640_1.jpg$1640_2.jpg$1640_3.jpg

The only thing written on the tang is 1640. I find it odd that there is nothing written on the "usual" side of the tang.
Scales seem to be in plastic (probably molded?)

Thanks!

pretty, looks like a generic no name blade but pretty. my no name is at least marked Solingen so it is a unknown 4 me.

It almost looks like theres remains of the Sheffield sword used by Joseph Allen and sons, on the tang?
Anybody else see it?

I see what you mean but when I look at the razor (not at the picture) there is absolutely nothing on that side of the tang...

I honed it and got a good shave with it this morning. I guess that's the important thing!

If a blade is a reject they either grind the makers mark off or XXX it out so it may be a shadow that is seen at certain light and angles because it has been nearly completely erased. That is my theory anyway.

I just found another straight with the same scales :

This one is marked Henry Sears & Son 1865.

Is it possible they are related?

It's interesting to note that this one only have one pin. When I unpinned mine for cleaning I noticed that the wedge area was glued before. The wedge is molded with one scale. Somebody must have pined the wedge to repair it.
