Storing My Boar Brush

I just received my first Boar brush, a B&B Essential, and would like to know the correct way of storing it. I noticed some store theirs standing up while others store it in a brush holder with the bristles down. Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

It can be a heated debate and everyone who does it differently than me is just plain wrong! :biggrin1:

It doesn't really mater. It really comes down to personal preference.

I took my only brush stand up to my cottage so I could keep the badger brush that I keep there with the bristles down to minimize dust settling into the bristles during the weeks/months that I'm not there.

IMHO they both work fine. In the beginning I stood mine up to dry. Now I use a stand to hang them only because it holds my Futur as well.

it is generally accepted that any logo or writing on a brush is read with the bristles pointing upwards, hence it is interpreted that the manufacturer suggests storing the brush facing the heavens.

some of my brushes came with a stand, some didn't. I do both, I don't think it really matters. a classic case of ymmv.

Thanks for your responses. I'll try storing the brush with the whiskers up. As always, I can count on good advice from the B&B brethren.

I use a stand. Even if it doesn't make the brush dry faster (debatable), it will prevent dust from getting between the bristles.

Besides, I've been doing that for decades, and it has never harmed my brush. So it works for me :wink2:

My razor and brush stand is packed away in storage so I just store my two boar brushes on the nightstand with the bristles up. Won't hurt em, and whatever dust settles on them gets rinsed off the next time I shave.

It depends on the brand; brushmakers that also sell stands will tell you how important it is to hang them upside-down while brushmakers that don't will tell you to store them upright....

Do as you please as it makes no difference.

In the end it doesn't matter indeed, I guess :wink2:
