Storing DE's and straight's - just an idea

In conjunction with assembling my 7 day set of Fat Handled Tech's, I also thought about storage of the razors that are not boxed.

So, in one of the local hobby shops I found some small wooden boxes that I thought would fit the purpose.
The boxes came in light wood, but to keep it classic I stained and varnished/lacquered (silk matt) the boxes.

They were then lined with rubber foam, the kind used for technical suitcases.

I found a small jewelry box and a marquetry box that held playing cards. I just place (some of) my razors in them.

I'm always looking for these in thrift stores.

Is there any cutout to the foam... I need some nicer boxes. Those are excellent

Yes.
I chose the foam in 10 mm thickness. That way I use one layer as base and one layer where I cut out the foam with a scalpel.

Very nice :thumbup1:
I have thought of that as well, but the jewellery boxes I have seen had drawers in them and wasn't suited for razors, the height was too low, so I haven't been looking for them since.
The ones you got look perfect. I will definitely be on the lookout for something like that again.

I thought about storing my straights all together in a nice box, but then realized that if one got celluloid rot it could kick off the others, and attack all the steel in everything. That was the end of that idea.

Was out yesterday but did not see anything useful (well razor useful anyway). It is just a matter of looking and not giving up. Small boxes are out there, you just have to be persistent. The box needs to be small and shallow which is not common in jewelery boxes.

I came across this English Victorian shelf stand last year. I need to rebuild the drawer as it was in pieces when I bought the shelf. All the parts came with it but I am not very handy with glue and such so now the drawer is empty but the shelves are handy :001_smile

Looking at what you have done has given me a push and I am going to see if I can get the drawer back to use it for more razor storage.

Great work, Søren! Simple and elegant. Thanks for sharing.

I will have to look around for a similar box or two. I'm by no means handy but I think even a Neanderthal like me could probably pull it off.

And that's a nice setup you've got there, Mick.

An excellent work indeed, Soren! Just one question/worry about the rubber foams, please. Is there any risk that they could hold humidity? Asking for the straights of course.

I would think it could, if it was introduced to the foam in some way. It is a bit like the sponges you can by for cleaning.
But if the boxes are stored in a dry environment I don't see it as a potential problem.
As it is the type used for lining technical suitcases it would be a problem for those as well. But one could always put a little bag of silica gel into the box to absorb any moisture if needed.
I will keep an eye out for my straights, but as I am storing them in my living room I don't expect any problems.

Very nice idea. I have a few cigar boxes that I keep my razors in, I would love to add some of that foam for additional protection.
