Stone bowl pipes

If you're looking for a second pipe, I would recommend briar. I made a stone pipe years ago from limestone, it got really hot.

Never smoked one but he makes ones that look like cobs too, might be tough to clench if that's your thing, probably very durable and they do get hot.

Why might it be difficult to clench? Weight?

That maker has a ton of unique pipes for sale at great prices. A lot of other cool stuff, too. Please let us know if you ever get one of those pipes and how it smokes.

Yes weight, not to mention the funky stem, I don't plan on getting one, not really my style.

I have a peace pipe that's made from soapstone, more for decoration than actual smoking - I'd imagine those would smoke hot and wet and be very heavy

I'd def look into a briar pipe. estates can be had fairly inexpensively, and there are some good entry level/basket pipes to be found... you can certainly find a decent smoking pipe for the asking price of the stone pipe (may be a nice addition to a collection as a novelty - I hate to belittle anyone's 'art' but I just don't think it'll be a 'smoker')

look for heft (weight) of the wood for size of pipe, and decent engineering (draft hole where it should be - flush and centered w bottom of bowl.

another cob can't hurt and meer's smoke as cool as anything but a calabash :)
