What's new

Step away from the credit card.

Holy cow do I want to acquire the Feather AS-D2. That looks like the razor that a Steve Jobs would have designed with the added benefit that the model number sounds like something from Star Wars. LOL

It's just too pricey right now.

I just wanted an outlet to whine and I imagine there are fellas here that would understand. :)

I hear ya. I could easily spend $1K and not get all of the stuff that I want to try or that I think just looks cool. There's just never enough $$, at least where I come from.

i had the chance to use a friends. while i can for sure say it was a beautiful razor and finished awesome the shave was okay. not spectacular. just not aggressive enough for me, it was a mild razor. but beautiful none the less.

I'm ok with it being mild and smooth. I don't have a particularly *heavy* beard and I think it would be just the ticket--a mild shave with a crazy sharp feather blade. I'm wondering what 2 passes would be like with that for me.

I'm thinking the guys who find it too mild might have coarser beards. Oh well. :)

I have the AS D2 and I do love it. It is not my favorite razor for the best shave though. The blade angle is so vastly different than a Tech, Muhle R89, & Above the Tie. After buying all of these razors, I can say that I like a more aggressive razor, and I don't have a thick, dense beard at all. I keep a goatee, and have very mild growth where I shave.

If I had to keep one or two razors for the best shaves, it would be the Above the Tie and the Muhle R89. Those Techs are pretty great also. The shave angles on all but the Feather are just perfect to me.

Thanks for the info. That's good to keep in mind.

I have tried probably every razor made, and the Feather for me is too mild. I can compare it to Tech razor or a Blue Tip Super Speed. Since i don't collect i decided not to keep it. It just was not effective enough for me to justify the cost. [ YMMV]

same here i dont own one yet but i was able to handle and try one and it was very nice the one i used was the mid level aggressive one i think the h1 i wanted to try the r1 as well but he only had the m1 and h1 (unless im backwards with the h1 and r1), imo i even liked the ikon overall shave wise than the feather

My wife was kind enough to insist that I buy this with a little extra cash we luckily came across. :) I know this is going to be the one for me. I *want* a nice mild smooth razor. It should arrive tomorrow. :)

I'd meant to ask, which Above the Tie do you have/prefer?

I have the 7 piece set, so essentially every possible combination at this point. My absolute favorite is the R. The R is like the Muhle R89. I also really like the more aggressive H base. It is pretty aggressive, yet also very smooth when you use it with care. One time I irritated a couple tiny spots on my neck going faster. The M is my least favorite of the three because it just a little less efficient than the other two, but it is also more aggressive than the Feather (with a more natural-to-me optimum angle).

H1 is the most aggressive ("Heavy"), the R1 is the middle ("Regular") and M1 is the the mildest ("Mild"). I think the M1 is squarely "moderate", truth be told, not as mild as a Weber, or a DE89, or a SuperSpeed or Tech.... so mild compared to the other ATT baseplates, but in the scheme of what I often see discussed here as mild razors, the M1 is squarely moderate. I love the M1 baseplate. Have mixed feelings about the H1, and haven't yet tried the R1.

I don't think I'll ever buy another razor in my life unless my d2 gets stolen. That was an amazing shave!

Just have to trust it and listen that you're hitting the right angle and it does everything else perfectly. The sharpness of a feather blade without the pain and intense concentration needed to avoid pain. :) first shave is a dfs with two passes.

I think $205 starts getting into the crazy range. I bought a whole set of Oneida stainless steel silverware for my kitchen. Over 100 pieces and they are heavy! Awesome quality stainless (not the cheap stuff you find at KMart). Beautiful satin finish like these Feather stainless razors. I paid $170 for the set (actually less with my 20% coupon from Bed Bath and Beyond).

Puts it into perspective for me. Beautiful razor not worth the price.
