Stay with one, or play the field?

It seems when it comes to razors, brushes, and creams, the more the merrier.

But, I seem to gravitate toward only one cologne. Longtime friends sort of tagged me with it, and I don't have a big desire to sway toward more of them.

How 'bout you folks?

You do realize you're asking the inmates in the asylum? More frags = more better!!

Ha, yes indeed.

But a counter argument would be that even if you only want one frag, sample many to find the one that really stands out.

If you do that, learn from our mistakes. In my initial foray into frag land, I purchased too many full bottles of stuff that I ended up not wearing that much. There are some free samples available, but I advocate purchasing small decants (2.5 or 5ml). These offer enough of a sample to wear 3-4 times and get a real sense of a scent, how it lasts, how you like it.

Variety is the spice of life!! Even if you wear the same scent most of the time, nothing says you can't switch it up once a while. And as already mentioned, that is where decants come in: they will allow you to sample a tons of stuff, and not commit to owning a full bottle of something that you might only wear a few times a year.

Building upon this thought. You could own bottle(s) of one scent, your signature for all intents and purposes, but then have a wide selection of samples of other scents for the few days in which you feel like wearing something else.

The choice doesn't have to be binary.

If you are satisfied with the one that you have, that's fine. The popular answer on this forum is going to be encouragement toward trying lots of different fragrances. I keep a few different scents around that I wear according to season and occasion.

I think the OP was saying one cologne _at a time_ in other words, he doesn't layer. This other interpretation of owning just one fragrance is simply unimaginable.

just get 5 samples at a time of whatever type of fragrance seems to interest you, a sample will last 2-10 applications depending on its size and how much you wear, and you'll have a lot of variety without much commitment. then if you find a particular class of fragrance that you like, you can get samples from that class, and so on!

i got a random bunch, and became interested in fougeres. ordered some fougere samples and have had a lot of fun narrowing my preference down among them. then i discovered a vetiver that i love and now have ordered some vetiver samples. i highly recommend this method :)

To me, wearing only one scent would be like only wearing one type of shirt, one jumper or jacket, one pair of trousers etc all the time. It works for some but not for me.
To my mind, if one is going to wear scents, one needs at least four or five - cool and hot weather scents, day and night scents, formal and casual scents.

Renato

Play the field of course! How are you going to find new and better things if you don't play the game? However, always keep a reserve back in case that new experimental scent you get smells like Satan's backed up sewer.

I'm in the minority I'm sure. I don't have many and would be satisfied with a couple for warm weather and a couple for cool weather. SWMBO would be happy if I simply stuck with Obsession.

Me wearing one fragrance would be like you entrusting your pet Chicken to Colonel Sanders. Thats my story, and I'm sticken to it.

I can't even imagine one fragrance.
One frag to go day to night through all seasons for all reasons?

Nope, it's just not possible.
