What's new

Starting to understand the Futur, aka it's all about technique.

So after struggling with this thing for a while I think I'm finally getting a grip on how to use this razor.
Before I was starting with the razor's handle parallel to my face and then tilting it to what I thought was a proper angle, then doing a shave stroke. My face was not happy, lots of irritation and I could feel the blade scraping and chattering along.

So I gave the Futur a break and moved on to a Feather popular which is a dandy razor and more forgiving of bad technique, and a few other smooth razors I have. But the thought of letting a 80$ razor just sit on my shelf was more irritating than the bad shave. :001_tongu

So I went back to it with renewed vigor and determination to get a good shave from it. What I started doing is holding the handle perpendicular to my face and tilting till I can just feel the blade gliding over my skin. Doing it this way the Futur has given me incredible shaves, the best out of my small razor collection. I have near zero irritation and my face still feels good several hours after the shave.

What do you Futur owners do to get a good shave?

I'm a Futur fan as I post in nearly all the Futur posts I see.

The secret is cranking it to 6.5. It makes the angle very easy to find, extremely efficient and comfortable with the proper technique. Give it a shot!

Wow 6.5, I've not dared go past 1 yet.
Ok tomorrow's shave will be a 6.5. Hope I don't cut a jugular.

The key is technique. Do not use pressure.

Do not fear the Futur; respect it. Focus on a solid prep and don't get discouraged. If you're used to mild razors, you'll learn fast :)

If the Futur is working well for you at 1 then keep it there. I have used mine for the past couple years at 1.5 and have no desire to change it. I get great BBS shaves with no irritation.

I use this razor at 4 and find that it gets close enough to where I hardly have to shave the next day! It's closer than my super adjustable at 9!
