Stanley Single edged blades

Hey

has anyone ever used one of these? they seem quite inexpensive for the purpose but i havent seen many other blades offered,

http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/...ode+matchall&recN=113193&N=0&Ntk=P_PartNumber

or any other of these replacement blades for scrapers, i am just wondering if they ar the same quality as standard
im wondering if they are worth it for a gem 1912 or made spineless for a valet autostrop :)

if no one has heard of them they have them for 3 dollars in ten packs, and if theyre nice i can just get 100 later for 10 bucks,

thanks all

I have not tried those specifically, but I did try another store brand single edge blade.

I was quite surprised. No pulling or tugging. Also, did not remove any hair at all. I am NOT exaggerating either.

If the blades are not made specifically for shaving,do not,I repeat,do not try to shave with them.:eek:They will be uncoated and shred your face.

I also tend to be a bit careful about blades that are not marketed for shaving, however; the blades that most of the SE crowd really like, the GEM coated blades bought from Ted Pella, are NOT made specifically for shaving. They are sold to laboratories for slicing stuff to be looked at under microscopes.

As an aside, I've used old uncoated Gillette blades and have had effortless BBS shaves. Some of my best shave experiences have come from antique Gillette "Thin" blades.

I would guess that the blades made for paint scrapers are simply not necessarily finished at the factory to "shave" standard, and that they wouldn't be all that great. But there's no way to know that without trying them.

By the looks of this "Stanley" blade, it may well be made in the same factory as the GEM blades. If that's the case, who knows, it may well be finished to a very high degree of quality as the ones available from Ted Pella. And while I doubt that they're coated, there's no way to know that just by looking at the blade.

I would say that for $10.00 for 100 blades, why not try them?

One final point: SE blades are very thick compared to DE blades. Unlike DE blades, I find that the cutting edge tends not to get very damaged as the blade is used. I find that they tend to just dull rather than get rough. And so I wouldn't worry too much about "shredding" my face. I would guess that the first pass will show whether the blade is sharp enough to shave, and if it is, it may well be just fine.

I can't stand it any more. I have a few days off work, so I'll put my face on the line and run down to Lowe's (I wish it was Home Depot, but they aren't here yet. They are basically the same store, but I must prefer orange over blue, I don't like Lowe's nearly as much) and pick up some "scraper" blades and try them out. Hey, I'll likely do something stupider today anyway:lol:

Don't waste your money:wink:

Don't laugh... the single edge Stanleys may suck, but the Stanley Carpet Cutter blades which fit the Durham Duplex are actually pretty good, and one of the few options for those who wish to use the vintage Durhams. Oh, and you can get them at Home Depot.

I just confirmed this. Really dull, not at all nice to use. When they call them scraper blades, I guess it really means that, they scrape the hair and don't cut the hair. Oh well, I'm only down a couple bucks and now I can say I've done it. Now I'm on to stupider things... I have been meaning to go down to the local Hell's Angels' hang out and knock over a couple of bikes*

*Disclaimer: I'm not going to do that. Too stupid, even for me:wink:
