Splashes with glycerin?

I love me some Aqua Velva! Name some other splashes that contain glycerin! Yes Im too lazy to search right now. There I said it.

The short answer...any of them if you buy a (cheap) bottle of vegetable glycerin and add a few drops to any bottle of AS!

As for others that come with gylcerin as an ingredient, Proraso Green and Captain's Choice are two that I own.

Agreed with above, you can add glycerin to any AS you want. The +1 "pre-glycerined" (I just invented that term) IMO is Masters Bay Rum.

I just refilled my glass bottles for my Pinaud Clubman and Veg. I put 1.5 drops to an ounce. For a 6 oz Clubman, I drip 9 drops of glycerin in, then put in the Clubman and shake it up. I've found that to be a similar feel to the Aqua Velva. Buy glycerin in any CVS or Walgreens.

Good to see you again JC! I'm gonna grab some this weekend and experiment. I have som Clubman as well and It's going to be my trial session.

I just checked my labels. The only after shave I have that truely has glycerine (C[SUB]3[/SUB]H[SUB]8[/SUB]O[SUB]3[/SUB]) in it, is Aqua Velva (Ice Blue, Ice sport, and Musk).

The following contain Propylene glycol (C[SUB]3[/SUB]H[SUB]8[/SUB]O[SUB]2[/SUB]):
Skin Bracer, Barbasol, Brut, Old Spice

And 4711 contains Butylene glycol (C[SUB]4[/SUB]H[SUB]10[/SUB]O[SUB]2[/SUB]).

I'm no chemist, but from what I've read all three are pretty similar, and would probably serve the same function in AS.

Pinaud Products are pretty much the only ones that didn't have anything. Which I've always thought was odd, since Clubman feels the heaviest on my face.

Where did you come up with that ratio of 1.5 drops glycerine to 1oz AS? Any harm if I add too much glycerine? Can I just mix it in my hand before applying instead of adding glycerine to the bottle of AS? Thanks for the advice!

Grab some glycerine and Aloe. Couple of drops of each really changes an aftershave feel. Just DON'T use too much. You can always add more but you can't take it out once it goes in... Trust me... I know.....

You can also find bottles of Glycerin & Rose Water at most pharmacies sold as an emollient.

One time I was travelling and forgot my aftershave lotion, I was staying at my mom's house and looking for an aftershave. I was still using my Gillette Sensor Excel and canned shaving cream at this point. I started searching under the drawers in her bathroom and saw a plastic pharmaceutical bottle labelled Glycerin + Rose Water. I didn't know much about glycerin at this time, but I knew rose water had to be soothing and good for skin. I flipped the bottle over and the drug facts listed it as a skin protectant and emollient. I splashed some on and it felt smooth and relaxed my skin after a harsh shave.

Sometimes the simpler things work really great too.

As a big fan of drugstore aftershave splashes, I'm intrigued by the idea of adding a small amount of glycerin to my Clubman and VO bay rum. I love the scent of both, but realize that they have a different face feel than either Aqua Velva or Skin Bracer.

I wonder if the glycerin or aloe for that matter (thanks Mick) would mix with the original splash or would the bottle have to be shaken each time before use.

I've "Mickized" my clubman original with both aloe and glycerine. They do not mix at first and sit as globs at the bottom of the bottle until you shake it up, but after a while they seem to be completely blended. I also thin my clubman original with witch hazel as well as add glycerine and aloe to "slow down" the scent.

I always shake my after shave, balm, and cologne before I use them so the mixed/blended ones are just the same for me.

Great suggestions about customizing any splash and adding glycerin. I've found one off the shelf splash that is on a thick and glycerin-heavy side is Nivea Cool Kick Splash, it provides a nice burn, cool tingle, and moisturization.

I added a bottle of pure glycerin to our shopping list! I guess this means I can buy almost any aftershave now....because I can add glycerin to it....so I need to buy them....:001_cool:

I do the same with a few cheap colognes which contain only water, alcohol and fragrance, and are too strong for my skin, but I like them for the scent. I add about 20% WH, 10% pure Aloe Vera, and a few drops of glycerin. I just shake the juice well on every use. I've also experimented with adding about 5% of Nivea Sensitive balm with a satisfying outcome.

This thread is another example why I love the B&B. After reading the posts I got a bottle of glycerin from CVS. Added about 1/2 tablespoon to a 400 ml bottle of Floid Special Edition AS. The result is my face feels much smoother and moisturized. Just another B&B simple idea that has great results.

Too much and your face will feel tacky to the touch - don't ask how I found this out. The garbage did smell great though so all was not lost.:biggrin1:

Honestly, you need very very little to do the work.

I was concerned with using to much glycerin and getting that tacky feel. Thankfully I didn't get it with my first use. I'll keep that advice in mind when I add it to my other aftershaves.

Thanks,
