Sorting out those Aftershaves

I'm loving my aftershaves, they are the highlight of the shave for me. I still love the whole process but that's the best bit IMO.

I was looking at the different bottles that I got and will buy some more soon. I'm also thinking of going with the locally available stuff (Aqua Velva, Skin Bracer, Brut, Booster, etc).

So far, I tried the Skin Bracer Original (love it, top AS), Brut (it's my least favourite of the Brut variations, I will save my bottle from Australia) and the Booster Lilac (Excellent).

I'm rethinking the Pinaud Clubman and Lilac Vegetal. I don't hate them but don't find they work as well as Skin Bracer and Booster (or the Australian Brut). So, I'm wondering if I should renew the stock. I'm thinking of leaving them under the sink and try them again in a month or two. The burning sensation is stronger with those products. If I stop using them, they burn even more compared to using Pinaud Clubman for 7 days in a row (as an example).

The question is this : Do you have a or many Aftershaves that you like and enjoyed for a while and now, after a few weeks or months, they are not fantastic like they used to be? Which one? What happened?

I have not used my Gillette CoolWave in a while...Some mornings, post-shave, I'll take a whiff of a few different aftershaves to see what's tops that day. Lately, whenever the CoolWave is in this line-up, it smells too "spring-like" (if that makes any sense). I also have not used Pinaud Citrus Musk more than a couple of times this winter (apologies to the Count) - but I know I'll be using it more when the weather gets warmer.

I've been getting into Skin Bracer a lot lately. I love Booster Mosswoood but haven't used it in months because it gives my wife a migraine . I've cooled a little on the Clubman. I still use it regularly, but for a while it was all I used. I think I just got a little "over saturated" with the scent. I've had to cut back on the aftershaves in general due to my poor wife's head - she's been having loads of trouble with migraines since last year and strong smells are a real problem for her.

That's interesting since Pinaud Clubman falls on the "good but not great" list because of the strong scent that seems to burn my nostrils... I will possibly take a break for a few weeks and see how I do when I grab it again...

+1 on cooling the Clubman. I used to use it a few times a week, but now I can't tell you the last time I used it. Also, for awhile I used Aqua Velva Ice Sport quite a bit. Again, can't tell you the last time I splashed it. I think I just have other splashes that I prefer over those, that's all, no big falling out or anything :) I'm sure they'll come back into rotation.

I took Aqua Velva out of the rotation.Works well, but somedays the scent is a bit over powering. Now I mostly use Skin Bracer and Old Spice.Once a week I'll use Clubman.Usually on weekends.

I got my Mennen Skin Bracer back and now I remember why I keep this one. The fragrance last a few hours on me, the menthol (even in winter) is nice. Because of the menthol, it doesn't burn much.

I try and rotate as best as I can among my 30 plus bottles but some of them gets ignored because I tend to use the newly acquired ones more regularly. Sometimes I splash on those bottles I bought 2 years ago and suddenly it brings me back to past moments and memories......scents have a funny way of doing that...

Went for the Clubman today. It's got a certain heaviness that might be off-putting to some, but I still enjoy it. It reminds my wife of her grandpa, but in a good way. The Mosswood just hits her in a really bad way. I can relate because the same thing happened to me with Alt Innsbruck.

I'm rotating through a dozen AS splashes at present. Most of those mentioned plus Alt-Innsbruck, Musgo Real, Tabac, Proraso green, etc.
I'm really in orbit around the Bay Rum planet at present and loving those the best (Pinaud VIBR and Captain's Choice) because of how great my skin feels after.
Cheers

I'm on the MG5 (Japanese) but the new version is made in Vietnam. It's not the same, sadly. I will have to move toward the other Classic Japanese AS since MG5 lost it scent-wise...

So far I've managed to stay in the Pinaud "family". When I get tired of Clubman I move to VI Bay Rum or maybe even to Lilac Veg since they are all completely different scents. I have 8 different Pinaud scents so there's always a different one to go to.

Bumping this back up, any others? MG5 was improved by adding 1 drop of peppermint essential oil to it, the scent changed and it now has more menthol (effect) so I'm happier with it. Pinaud Clubman might be part of the same experiment. I know it doesn't have menthol to start with but hey, I love menthol!

+1 cooling on some Clubmans mainly Original and Lime Sec. Had quite a break from the range in general but now as its winter here back to SR, Vanilla and Musk.

Dropped about 4 menthol crystals and 10 drops of glycerin in my clubman, boy is it ever fiiiiiiine, now!

I added a bit of witch hazel to it and it mellowed the mix nicely!

I've gotten away from the original clubman. The smell hangs too heavy on me.

However, I can't get enough of the Veg.

I have way too many, just keep trying them out, but lately in the heat its been Osage Rub, Floid Blue, Florida Water, Alcolado Glacial.

Off topic - is there a thread (my search skills didn't get anything) that sets out the Iconic, or Classic, or Must Have aftershaves?

I love the idea of Clubman, But lately it's just too much for me. It's my only AS that gives me a headache. Not really what I'm looking for.
