What's new

Sometimes you just have to weigh up the odds - Georgian Restoration.

I acquired a very early razor recently, it's stamped with a crown and G.R. on the tang as well as a makers mark. From the GR stamp and the shape of the blade and ivory scales it's unmistakeably Georgian period, so pretty scarce.

The blade has some rust but not too bad for 200 years. I was going to remove the scales for the restoration but as the scales are so thin, I had a horrible feeling that cracked or snapped scales would be inevitable.

I therefore decided to restore the blade in-situ, not ideal but weighing up the pros and cons, I think it was the best course of action.

I'll post some pics once I'm finished.

OK pics are going to be a must.
I'm liking the sound of this. Nothing wrong with giving her a good going over without stripping it completely of all character.
