Something to help with razor burn?

For some reason, regardless of the cream that I use, I find that I still sometimes get some nasty razor burn. I have some Jack Black's beard lube that helps sometimes, but I'm looking for something that gives almost instant relief....is that possible? Any suggestions?

Most of your drug store aftershaves will help with the razor burn.

Aqua Velva comes to mind as a solid performer for razor burn.

Then you can you just read more post and try 100's of other after shaves just to see which one works the best. It NEVER ends.

I would look into whats causing the razor burn in the first place than to look for an aftershave. An aftershave is to disinfect small nicks, cuts and to close pores. Just go through the basics again, enough prep, a sharp blade, no pressure and correct angle.

I've always had the issue with RB, regardless of if I use MB razors are DE's. It's only on my neck too. My skin is very sensitive down there.

Neck is one of the tricky parts for most of us since the hair tends to grow in a different direction than the rest of the face, check the direction of the hair growth on your neck. You might be going against the grain. Shave with the grain till you get your technique right and then you can experiment with going against the grain.

I had a couple of bumps on my neck earlier this week -- too many emolients in my various ASBs? The solution seemed to be the usual application of TND witch hazel, and a few minutes later, a healthy splash of Barbasol Pacific Rush and the slap-in-the-face sting of alcohol.

Those blemishes didn't have a chance, and no razor burn, either.

I've noticed since I've started using Johnson & Johnson baby oil with Aloe and Vitamin E as a pre-shave, my burn was nothing when used with C.O. Bigelow (Proraso) creme and minor when I shaved with Tabac. I did mix Nivea Alcohol & Dye Free After Shave Balm with Tabac Aftershave yesterday and when applied, I had burn for a second then nothing but calm. I would look into prep, face lather, hardware and technique as possible contributors to the burn. If you use oil as a preshave, only put a small coating on your face-enough to know it's there, not enough to see i.e. glistening from off of light.

Sometimes changing to a better and more protective shave cream may help prevent the razor burn. After a "bad" shave Gillette Series After Shave Gel-Sensitive works well. And it really cools.

Maybe change to a Tallow based soap like Speick, Monsavon or MWF etc. Also consider a good aftershave such as Proraso or Speick. Im sure these will help combat your razor burn a little more.

I've had great luck with witch hazel. You may also want to try Speick as it contains alum.

+1. I've started using witch hazel after every shave and can't be happier with the results. I've actually started using WH every morning and I don't remember the last time my skin felt this healthy.

Really bad razor burn responds to Aqua Velva. You could rub on a small amount of Proraso Pre/Post cream that has always eliminated the severest razor burn on me, may work for you as well. The Portuguese balm 444 also works well. But as the others have said if you are getting razor burn then something is going wrong with your actual shaving process. You need to check that you are prepping properly and using a sharp blade.
