What's new

Something came and something went!

What came was my new Muhle R41 open comb. I been really looking forward to getting it and I wasn't disappointed. The razor feels alot lighter than my Murker 11c although head looks identical. It feels nicely balanced with a top heavy feel. The finish seems perfect.

What went is my beard, after 15 years in one form or another. I've finally had enough and shaved it clean away. This is much to the annoyance of Mrs Laughing who likes the rugged look. Anyway I told her if she likes a beard so much, she should grow one. This, obviously, went down really well :001_rolle

Having trimmed off the long hairs (the beardy part) with a trimmer, I went through my usual prep' then on with C&E Nomad cream and put a Wilkinson Sword blade in the new razor. The shave from the Muhle was fantastic,BBS in three passes. I realise the shave probably won't be as good next time but, so far I'm really pleased and I really like the feeling of being completely clean shaven again.

I love that razor too, probably my all time favourite. My beard (goatee) goes off every summer before we go on vacation and I never use a trimmer before I use the open comb; just three passes needed (like on the rest of my face) to get a smooth and comfortable shave.

Yeah, ever since the R41 came into my life I've had to expand the shave area.... so my goatee has come off a few times. It's a fantastic shaver, although I wish it was just a little heavier.

Many, many years ago I was standing a dress uniform inspection. The Admiral stepped up to the guy next to me and said, "You beard is scruffy. It takes far more time and work to maintain a properly trimmed beard than it does to be clean shaven."

The guy did a lot of extra duty over that gig. The Admiral's words have stuck with me through the years. I grew a beard about 6 or 7 years ago as I'd always thought it would be neat to have one. I made it about two months. Its true, a neat beard is a lot of work. I even got rid of my 'stach that I'd worn for about 25 years at that time.

.

I couldn't agree more. It's one of the reasons I decided to get rid off it. it seems to take less time shaving the whole face than shaving along the neck and cheek line. I shaved again this morning and the results were still BBS with the Muhle.
