What's new

Somerset Duke 3.I think

I just received this Duke 3, what I believe to be David Carter era Somerset. I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting, but after seeing it in person I am very happy with its overflowing character. :thumbup1: The brush is in great shape overall.

I thought you guys might like to see some photos. The last picture shows the new "3" next to my Vulfix production Duke 2. By the way, the knot is still a little damp from its initial bath.

The only badger brush in my den (currently) is a Somerset Era Duke 3 as well. Enjoy yours. The lampblack is superb on your specimen.

Now That is a good looking Duke...nice score.

let us know how it lathers. The knots on those older Simpsons are supposed to be very nice.

it looks like it has a bit of room around the base of the knot to splay a bit more (if you get what I mean) something I wish my now sold D3 had.

Bruce, you are right. I used it last night and it really blooms out once the lather gains body. I think the knot shapes of the Somerset and the Duke 2 pictured above are quite similar, though the 2 is a little compressed in that pic from his friends in the brush drawer. Anyway, it was a great experience; very soft with just a pleasant amount of scritch. I may have to use both Dukes for more direct comparison this weekend.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
