Some restoration questions

How do you remove the pins from a razor? Does anyone clean blades with an ultrasonic cleaner? Where do you guys find these awesome scales? Thanks

How do you remove the pins from a razor?
I haven't the need to do so yet, But I have heard that using a fine toothed file is enough to release the pins from their 'locked' position, just be careful not to dig it into the scales and ruin them
Does anyone clean blades with an ultrasonic cleaner?
Yes, People do that, apparently to great success in some instances

Where do you guys find these awesome scales? Thanks
Most folks make them themselves, There's a few tips hidden amongst the razor restoring forum, Can also get them from Razors that have trashed/chipped/broken blades.

I use a small flat file and a straight punch to remove pins.
Carefully file the peened part of the rivit off, then *gently* tap the pin out with a straight punch and small hammer. Make sure the punch is smaller that 1/16" or you run the risk of splitting the scale.

I've never used an ultrasonic cleaner. I use sandpaper and buffing compounds.

Why you make the scales yourself of course. :w00t: That's the best part!!!
If you're not up to making scales yourself, there are several very talented craftsmen on this site that can help.
