Soaps You Love, But Can't Use

I recently bought 3 soaps from a member, one of them being L'Occitane Cade. Man, do I love the smell of that soap and that stuff lathers like a champ. But I'm finding it's not the slickest lather and it's kind of a rough shave. I so want to be able to use this soap with regularity, but I think it's going to have to go a once a week rotation. Rats, guess that means I'll have to use my D.R. Harris soaps more. Rough life, right?

So I'm curious. Do you guys have a soap(s) that you really like for one reason or another but just can't use on a daily basis?

I had the exact same problem with Cade to begin with but then I loaded my brush with less soap and used a bit more water than other soaps. I now get fantastic results, it is slick and very protective.

It seems to load onto the brush a bit too easily so either use heaps more water or less soap and a bit more water.

QED Lime really irritated my face.
QED Rose is a tad irritating, but I love, love, love the scent so much I deal with it on occasion.

Jeremy, it's times like these when i look at your Luke Wilson avatar and think "what's he talking about, he doesn't even shave"

Sometimes I have to play around a bit with a new soap to get the water/soap mix just right. A couple of times, I've put a soap away, tried it later, and gotten better results. Same thing with some razors.

Also... you might experiment with. For whatever reason, some combinations seem to work better than others. If you haven't tried Proraso pre-shave - get some. Everybody's face and beard are different, but it makes a big difference for me.

I share your opinion of the Cade scent.... I love it! The aftershave splash and balm are awesome after any soap IMHO.

Mama bear soaps. They smell amazing but they seem to provide very little protection to my face. 1 pass is ok but it's tough to even finish the second.

I've been lucky. I haven't come across this situation yet. I've had soaps I don't like, but never one I simply couldn't use.

Olivia Seife's King Kong WM. It burns my face like nobodies business, but it is probably the strongest, manliest scented ss I have ever used or run into. After shaving with it once in a hurry, I didn't use aftershave and the scent lingered strongly and lasted all day. I pif'ed it to my buddy, but I almost wish I had kept a sliver around just to smell once in a while.

Mama Bear's Smokin'. It's not that I can't use it, but... I love the scent so much I bought a whole bunch before it was gone. Now I only have about a half a tub left and I just can't imagine not being able to get more. It just gets the occasional whiff every once in a while. I'll use it on "special" occasions.

the col conk almond smells in a very attractive way , but i can't shave with it , doesn't fit to my skin at all

Tabac.
I mean, I *can* use it, but it has always irritated my face a little bit (I think due to the lavender). It gets the best lather I've had yet. Ironically, L'Occitane Cade gives me almost as good lather and is *much* nicer to my skin.
