soap ingredients

My daughter and I are going into the custom soap business. I have only been wet shaving for about 6 months. Do any of you have recommendations on oils that you like in your shave soaps. IF you have a favorite scent tell me that as well. We will make the most popular one based on responses and see how it reviews. Thanks for your input.

Pine! And anything "woodsy/foresty."

I doubt many others are with me, though.

Failing that I love the smell of gardenia and jasmine... Not too manly, I know. Also, Tabac.

Actually, when it comes down to it, there aren't really any scents I DON'T like -- except for lime. I used to love it, but then I used my MB lime oil every day for months on end. No more lime for me.

As for favorite soap oils, as long as it's offered with menthol I don't care. Call me the ice man.

What kind of oils in the shave soap...? Shouldn't that be 'This is the recipe I've come up with; it's nice and creamy and ...; now you decide on fragrance'?

Fragrances: there are already so many flowery, lavender-y, menthol-y products. Make something based on common herbs, like basil, rosemary, sage, tarragon, ..., and make it faint so you don't tire of the fragrance too easily.

The best oils for making shave soap are in my opinion:

Palm Oil, Stearic Acid, Castor Oil.

There are other good ones: Tallow, Cocoa Butter, and more, but those three are the best of the best when it comes to a balance of price and the properties desirable in a good shave soap.

As for scents. I'm a big fan of Spice scents like Kell's Arabian Spice. Violet is good too. I'm also pretty fond of the combination of Cedar and Patchouli.

I was in Philly Italian Market today, popped in a cheap asian beauty supply shop and bought a 12.5oz "Professional Use Only" jug of that stuff. Not really to my taste. I definitely get the "Urinal Cake" smell from it at first, then it fades to something I don't really recognize and am indifferent to. My mother tried some and immediately said "eww", then said that she started liking it the more she rubbed it in, and started listing off flowers she could smell in it.

edit: Just used it after a shave, and smells about the same on the face. It also seems to have Benzocaine in it. There's a definite subtle numbing effect.
