Soap and cream breakdown by country of origin

Why by country of origin?

I was thinking of gifting a product from a certain country to a friend or relative with the same heritage. My brother-in-law is Spanish, for example, and I thought he might like to try a Spanish soap or cream. Before asking that that limiting question, I thought there might have been a list already compiled.

Thanks, Luc. I haven't seen that listing! Exactly what I was looking for!

Thanks, Luc. I've seen that listing. I will take the initiative to browse the list of soaps and creams for their country of origin.

I didn't get to Spain... Yet... Eventually I will. I would suggest starting a thread in the soap section of the forum asking which soaps are made in Spain, the responses will probably be quick and good. I could then re-use the thread to create a page in Wiki.

If someone creates a cream by country of origin page in the Wiki, here goes the list of Portuguese creams:

Brand Name (Manufacturer)

Current Production:

- Musgo Real (Claus Porto)
- O Melhor (Confiança)
- Top Secret (Confiança)
- Veleiro (Confiança)
- Men's Estoril Sports Line (Nally)
- Via Men (made by Confiança)

Discontinued:

- Lavanda (Ach. Brito)

There's also word on a new Portuguese shaving soap coming up. The details are still being released, I don't know of anyone who has tried it yet.

That's MY heritage! My grandmother and her family came from Portugal in the early 1900s.

I was excited to grab a tube of Musgo Real when I was at Gentleman's Best in CT this summer for that reason. I'll give the others a go as soon as I get through some of my current stash!

I was interested this morning to notice that my Erasmic shave cream was made in Jordan. Why interested? I don't remember ever buying another product from that country.

My barber told me that Erasmic's largest customer was the Jordanian army. I believe he's Turkish, and his wife is Jordanian.

Hi, Luc,

There is another Portuguese shaving cream. It is called "Goldex".
Lleon sells it on his site, vintagescent. You can see it here. It contains lanolin.

Nice job on the compendium, BTW. :thumbup1:

Added!

Do you have any experience with this cream (scent, function)?

Nope.
In Lisbon, were I live and work, there is a local shop that sells it.
But I never bought it, mostly because I already have shaving material more than enough for several years! :tongue_sm
It contains lanolin, which is a good sign. Although, I don't believe that it performs better than other Portuguese creams like Musgo Real, O Melhor, Top Secret or Veleiro.

You can see the lather that Goldex produces in some of Leon's SOTD's. It surely looks nice:
