What's new

Snapped a pic of the ol' cellar

Got the cellar out of its various storage places tonight to open up some new stuff since my "Open" stash was running low.

Very nice! As a new pipe smoker, I'm still on my first half dozen or so tobacco blends, yet to finish one, but close on a couple. I only smoke a couple bowls a week when SWMBO is not around, she hates it.

Red Rapparee is one of my favourites. Believe me when I tell you it tastes better (or at least subjectively different) when smoked from a pipe that has never known Latakia. Of course it is still pretty great in any pipe.

Back to Connor's original post, I think it'd be a great idea to have a dedicated thread for tobacco cellar pics. I know a couple other pipe forums have them and I never get tired of looking at them.

I don't know if I should do that :001_unsur. Maybe I'll wait until Price posts his then I won't feel as weird :biggrin1:.

This stack here should last me a couple years, but that certainly won't stop me from buying more.

My "cellar" is about the same size as yours and I'm always worried about running out or concerned about the day tobac is no longer sold on the web, at least internationally. Then I saw your pic and thought about it some more. You're right, a load like that should, or could, last for years, unless you're smoking multiple bowls every day. One thing that frustrates me about even a modest* cellar such as ours, is that there are many great blends that get lost in the pile. I have a few bowls left of McClelland Beacon Extra, the only VaPer remaining in my stash, and I'm always thinking about how great the next smoke of it will be since it has some decent age to it now and I'm all out of Escudo (Blewbyou, I know you're busy with your PAD but that trade sounds good right about now), but I just cannot get around to it with the likes of Mississippi River, Full Virginia Flake, and Compton's Balkan hanging around. Imagine how lonely some of Blade Boy's blends must be.

*Modest only comparatively speaking... let's not forget where we are!:biggrin1:

Just a quick question regarding storing pipe tobacco. I know cigars = humidor! I see the mason jar used or zip lock or ....... Do you use a humidification device to keep the tobacco?

It seems that most pipe smokers do not use humidification devices, unless a batch of tobac has dried out and requires it. If stored properly in a well-sealed mason jar, I don't think there's a need for it. But if you have a box or cupboard full of open tobacco tins that won't be finished up in a month or so, it's not a bad idea to throw something in (not inside the tins themselves) to keep things fresh.

Pipe tobacco doesn't need active humidification like cigars do, but they need to be sealed in air tight containers or they'll dry out. Keeping them in the original tin is fine, as is mason jars.

Thanks! Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread!
