Small brushes

I have a very nice Penworks silvertip brush with a 24mm knot that I like a lot. But I've recently been using the little brush included in the AOS starter kit to face-lather soaps -- Tabac and Kent/MWF -- and I really love the small size. I get three passes and control that I just don't get with the bigger brush.

I think I read here that the AOS brush has a 16mm knot and it's hard to imagine going smaller, like the Wee Scot.

But I see that Simpson has a number of brushes with 18-20mm knots, both in pure and best badger, so I'm thinking seriously of one of those ... but which one? I notice that prices in best can be anywhere from $50 to more than $100, from something like the Special at the low end to one of the 50 series or the Harvard for about twice as much.

Any recommendations? Does the additional money buy a more densely packed brush, or is it more for a heavier handle, more hand work, something like that? Yeah, I'm looking for bang-for-the-buck here. :001_smile

I appreciate any thoughts.

Though I know what you mean when you say the Special's at the "low end", don't be fooled by the price. This is a fantastic brush. It's as soft as my Shavemac silvertip. Seriously. Awesome performer, lost about 2 hairs in its lifetime I think.

I have a Simpsons Wee Scot and I love it !! I use it for almost every shave !!

+1 I bought the Wee Scot initially as a novelty item, just to own a tiny, cute brush. After giving it a try, I find myself reaching for it more and more, especially for face lathering soaps. It has an amazing capacity to make and hold lather for it's size. :thumbup1:

Grab the Berkeley! 20mm and only $50! I am amazed at the value with the Berkeley... Dont forget the discount code 'BANDB' at WCS to get 10% off!

Its the one on the far left... The Thater in the center is 24mm for comparison.

While I like the handle of the Beaufort B1 better than the Berkeley, I much prefer the Simpson Best knot over the Pure knot.

Well i guess i will go first this time, I was having my doubts but after a 6 week break in my semogue 620 just magically broke in and this is some serious bang for the buck!
