I have a very nice Penworks silvertip brush with a 24mm knot that I like a lot. But I've recently been using the little brush included in the AOS starter kit to face-lather soaps -- Tabac and Kent/MWF -- and I really love the small size. I get three passes and control that I just don't get with the bigger brush.
I think I read here that the AOS brush has a 16mm knot and it's hard to imagine going smaller, like the Wee Scot.
But I see that Simpson has a number of brushes with 18-20mm knots, both in pure and best badger, so I'm thinking seriously of one of those ... but which one? I notice that prices in best can be anywhere from $50 to more than $100, from something like the Special at the low end to one of the 50 series or the Harvard for about twice as much.
Any recommendations? Does the additional money buy a more densely packed brush, or is it more for a heavier handle, more hand work, something like that? Yeah, I'm looking for bang-for-the-buck here.
I appreciate any thoughts.
Mike
