Simpson's Monica Belucci Handle

I have no proof, just suspicions, that Simpson's Persian Jar was modeled after the stunning Italian actress. I've had my 2-band PJ3 for some time and really love the handle. I did a thread about it a couple of months ago so won't revisit it's attributes. I've been wanting to get a 3-band version and when I saw that Simpson may be imposing minimum retail pricing soon I headed over to WCS to pick one up. The same brush purchased off Simpson's site would have cost me 50 percent more ($171 vs. $257.90). I haven't used the 3-band enough to give a thorough review and now my son has both the PJs for for a shakedown cruise. But I will say that the knot feels great and has plenty of backbone combined with a luxury face feel. I used both brushes during a shave and surprisingly they were quite similar. These are really Simpson at its very best. The 3-band has a 28 X 53 knot while the 2-band is 26.8 X 56.

those are some sexy handles and some very nice looking knots.

i'd have a hard time choosing, luckily you don't have to make the decision. :001_cool:

I couldn't agree more, one of my favourite brushes.

I've noticed that the handle on the big Persian Jar 3 is different from the other two where it's bulkier overall with less of a 'trumpet' (the only word I could come up with :biggrin1:) feature at the base. It looks fantastic and, more importantly, is excellent to use.

Here's mine in use, weekend past -

For those unfamiliar with Monica Bellucci, check out the 2007 film "Shoot 'em Up" also starring Clive Owen. Her attributes are a good match for this fine brush. Very fine, indeed

What kind of Safety Razor is pictured here?

Minimum retail on Simpsons? You think that they would price themselves out of the market with all the competition...

I don't know what their plans are or whether a price hike would price them out of the market. I included that reference based on this thread as well as seeing a respected vendor post a notice on his website to expect minimum pricing soon. Will those minimums, if instituted, take the prices to the level of Simpson's own store? I don't know. We face something similar with Muhle razors where the price is a fairly uniform $60 in the US, which is 70% higher than the $35 you can pay from a UK vendor.

Huh! I read the linked thread, thanks. And BTW the PJ handles are very nice, I would love one to accompany the Duke in my bathroom!

I often use a PJ1 in Super that I picked up in a trade off the BST, I think I'd like it better if the loft was a bit higher. I think that I'll be looking for a PJ2 in either super or two-band in the near future.

Ah yes, I saw that one. Now I know where the curves for the Persian Jar came from. YOWSA

To avoid provoking anybody, I will post these 2 pics of her - first picture is from one of my favorite movies of all time 'Malena' (fantastic movie, European film at its absolute best)
The other is just a photo of her lovely face.
