Simpson Ehsan questions

I picked up a Simpson Ehsan from BullGooseShaving.net recently. As an aside, the service was excellent, the shipment was fast, and I highly recommend you check 'em out.

However, with regard to the Ehsan, I have a few questions I didn't see answered in the reviews.

1. The brush is a bit scritchy (I've used it once). I've been told that this should subside with a breaking-in period of around 14 uses (or two weeks of exclusively using this brush). Does that seem consistent with the experience you guys have with the Ehsan or recent Simpson two-bands?

2. OMGBACKBONE! Almost too much, though - it's very firm in the center of the knot, such that I can't hold it perpendicular to my face and lather effectively. Will this subside as well? Combined with the scritchy tips, I'm concerned. Super backbone + scritchy tips = kinda ouch. I read so much about Simpson two-bands that I had to try one, but perhaps they're not for me. I want to be sure I give this thing a fair shake before coming to that conclusion though.

I have a T3 Two Band that has broken in nicely. These aren't the run-of-the-mill Silvertip. Really are a much different animal, but the Two Band is my fav brush by far! Get to know her and she will be good to you!

I just posted this response over the in the SOTD thread:

It might get a bit softer, but I wouldn't hope for too much change. Personally, I have found a bit of variation with the Simpson two-band hair. I just used an Ehsan that I purchased from Mike (AntiqueHoosier) in the B/S/T and it had the softest tips of the three Simpson two-banders I own - despite having the shortest loft. My PJ2 is quite scrubby.

I also purchased the PJ2 from the B/S/T and it never seemed to break in. Perhaps it was already broken in? I have to be careful with the PJ2 or my face will feel over exfoliated. I twirled, swirled, swizzled and lathered with reckless abandon this morning whilst using the Ehsan and there were no problems in scritch department.

The tips are a bit scritchy when dry, but soft when lathering. Everything has softened up with use. This is an excellent face-lathering brush, and the firmness is just right for me. I just wish it were a bit more fan-shaped, though. My only "complaint."

Tips will soften out some. I give mine a good soak before each use. Back bone is still there. Ehsan is soap brush for sure. I love mine. It should be noted that I bowl lather even with soap.

It was a lot better this morning; it's breaking in nicely. Still getting used to the extra backbone, but it's certainly useful.
