Simpson Chubby closest to Eagle 3 in Best?

A couple of years ago, I took part in the B&B Eagle Group buy....to date that is by far my favorite brush in loft, density and feel. This year for my B-Day I'm contemplating getting a Chubby (new brush in general but mentally settled on a Simpsons Chubby for some reason). For those Eagle 3 owners...which Chubby performs at the same level? (Face latherer here....so floppy, long hairs don't really work for me).

WCS shows the Chubby 1 in Best has a 23mm knot and the 2 has a 27mm knot....that's a pretty big difference and I'm concerned it might be too large. The loft on the 2 is equivalent to the Eagle however.

Thoughts? Anyone have an Eagle and a Chubby?

The D3 is great suggestion I have the same Eagle 3 in Best as well as Chubby 1 Best, Chubby 2 and a couple of different Duke 3s.

To me, the chubby 1 is a mini version of the eagle best. The chubby 2 is a whole different ballgame. I don't have a chubby 2 in best only manchurian but the knot size puts it in a completely different category imho. The Duke 3 is a great brush and if you're looking for something a bit different - there are several different handle colors available through Simpsons directly.

Why do you say the Chubby 2 is a whole different ball game?

The Chubby 2 is a pretty large, dense brush. There is absolutely NO flop in that brush. It is a large brush and holds more lather than a large car wash sponge. It is a great brush, but it is huge, and I agree with P Funk it is in a completely different category than the Eagle.

Aha...understand now. Does the size have any resemblance to a Shavemac 177?

No. The Chubby 2 Best is a completely different animal. I hesitated a long time before getting one, fearing that it would be this huge, unmanageable mass of badger. I finally got one, and it certainly is really big, but it feels smaller than my comparably sized Polo 10 because the Chubby's loft is much lower. The only comparables to the Chubby 2 would be one of the Rooney Heritage Stubby XL brushes. Personally, I like the Eagle G3 Best better than just about anything. You could try a 58, which has a 24 mm knot, but is less dense and has a higher loft....very nice brush, or give a Harvard 4 a try. The Harvard's density is comparable to the Eagle, but the knot is a touch larger and the loft is higher.

Thanks Bob...decided upon the Chubby 2 after much deliberation....when I read there was a possibility this was Alexander Simpson's favorite brush...I launched. I'm a sucker for historical stories of folks potentially using the same kit I'm buying...
