Silvertip for under $50 - too good to be true?

I would have to see the brush to know if it was worth the money. The label "Silvertip" really has no meaning, since there's no set standard or definition of what constitutes "Silvertip" badger hair.

There's no reason a certified, bona fide, unalloyed, purified, genuine silvertip badger brush can't cost $46. I paid $10 apiece for some old Ever-Ready brushes (yes, I realize that I overpaid), one of which I'll clean up and re-knot with a $28 "Grade A" silvertip knot from The Golden Nib, and voila, $38 silvertip brush. $40 if you count the epoxy, polishing compound, and white lacquer used in cleaning it up.

There are some good silvertip brushes coming from China. Don't let the price fool you. It really depends your preference, but some of these are quite nice.

I purchased a couple of Frank Shaving Silvertips for under $40 and am very satisfied with them. Feel good face lathering and minimal shedding.

All badger knots come from China. Some of the top dollar ones might have a denser knot, but otherwise they are all very close, depending on grade. The handles and name brands are what you may for, not the knot.
