Signle Edge Blades

I have a GEM Jr. and it's a nice razor but the blades I have are from Rite-Aid. Now, within ONE shave they rust over. Is this normal? Do they require more care with cleaning and what not?

Sounds like you have the carbon blades which are very sharp, but as you've discovered can rust quickly. Look for the stainless steel blades if you don't want to deal with the rust.

I've been looking but all the drugstores seem to only have these ones. i can't find the GEM ones. Hopefully I'll stumble upon some soon.

The carbon ones are actually harder for me to find than the stainless. I can find stainless at Walgreen's, RiteAid, and CVS.

ha figures! Where I'm at it's the obvious. I touch these wrong and they rust over.

After your shave remove the blade and dry it, carefully rubbing from the spine to the edge, dry the bed of the Razor. I use a spray of rubbing alcohol on the razor to remove any remaining water and replace the blade, you can also store the blade separately in a small container between uses.

What stainless blades are you finding at CVS and Rite Aid? The CVS brand is carbon steel as are the Treets that most Rite Aid stores carry. Do the blades from those two stores have the word stainless stamped on the spine or 009RD?

Pace provides stainless SE blades to some stores under the retailer's name. The blades are Dorco stainless blades

Remove the blade from the razor when you are finished. Put it on a towel, fold the corner of the towel over it and press to remove any water.

Store the blade separate from the razor. What I do is save the cardboard wrapper (my blades all have individual cardboard around the blade) and put the blade on top of the opened cardboard which elevates it and allows air to circulate. I've not had a carbon blade rust by doing this.

Ted Pella Gem SS coated blades are available from Razor Blades and more- a vendor on this forum. They are really good blades!

It's normal because it is a carbon steel blade. IMHO they are great blades, but you could also get some GEM Stainless Steel blades Walgreens.
