Show us a picture your heirloom gear

I thought it would be nice for members to show off their heirloom shaving gear. The razor, brush or mug etc. you received from your father or grandfather...

I will start, although I do not have any shave related gear from my dad or grandfather, I do have a couple razors from my wife's grandfather.

About twenty years ago he gave me his Gem Micromatic Open Comb and his fathers Red Point. I kept them safely tucked away till I joined here. I still use them on occasion. The Red Point was the first straight I ever used.

This one belonged to my dad.

$Gillette Brit_001.jpg

Can never remember dad using it though but have memories of playing with it as a child as it was in the
junk cupboard that was in my room. We moved house when I was 18 (1989) and when I think back to
what got thrown out or sold I sigh.. Especially when I see some of the same household stuff that we had
selling in retro/antique shops today.

I'm not sure why this got kept, but fortunately it did and my mother also kept it after she moved into a
retirement village after dad passed away in 2003. Not really sure of it's history as dad would of only
been 4 in 1939. It could be my granddad's but more than likely dad just collected it sometime.

I've only this year started DE shaving and remembered this one. It's not in the best of conditions most
of the plating has worn on the handle but the head is still in good condition. It is a nice shaver. I think
I will get it replated some day.

Mike your Red point is a beauty!

very cool. this will be a wonderful thread to watch!

alas, I've not gotten any shaving heirlooms from my father or grandfathers (have a few of my grandfather's pipes tho)... treasure those heirlooms!

the closest I come is buying 70's era Dana English Leather, which is all my dad wore when I was a child. whenever I use it I feel/smell like I'm 10 years old again, at least for a minute. I've stockpiled quite a few bottles of both the AS and cologne

Excellent thread, Mike. My father had a three piece French razor, but it was unusable. Great to see your stuff, gents.

Artes,
your dad was a styling dude. Double breasted suit with the pocket kerchief. If I'm not mistaken there's also a hint of mischief in the look as well.

You are all very lucky to have these things passed down.

this is his vintage boar brush.

Everything is in pretty good condition, I have used it all except the Single Edge DE. I am having trouble locating any blades and I really just want to try it and not spend some big bucks on blades.

Love this thread idea!

Here is my 1954 Gillette Superspeed. This was my Grandfathers and my Fathers. My father passed away 12 years ago, so he never "handed it down" to me, but if he were still alive today I know he would have.

My father's Hoffritz, a Father's Day gift to him from me about 1968, mine since his death in 2000. (If you notice a blade in it and some soap scum it's because I still use it every day).

My grandfather's old Gillette. When I decided to go DE, I could remember watching him use it when I was very young. I had my parents dig through his stuff and find it for me. The next time I go home, I'm planning on going through his things and looking for the little cup and brush that he always used with it; though I probably won't use them, they would be nice to have.

Awesome thread! I wish I could post but I don't have any. My future child's first shave will be with a straight razor...hopefully it'll be my son's. :tongue_sm

I don't have a picture to share, because I don't really have any heirloom gear. My grandfather used a DE of some kind, but I don't know what. When he died, all of his children divided up all of his stuff that wasn't in the will. If somebody wanted something, they spoke up. If more than one person wanted it, they drew names. Of course, one of my aunts wanted everything, because it was "Daddy's." So I'm sure she has the razor, and it's sitting on a shelf somewhere. But she didn't take the blades, and that's what I have. Three sets of Schick Plus Platinums were left in the house, and I found them when I moved in. That's what my razors are running on at the moment.
