I am thinking of going to the Merkur line, but don't know if its worth the cash. They look very similar. Obviously the progress and long handle are different. Any suggestions on an improvement to my EJ? And no I can't go Gillette, as I will be buying Amazon.

Replace is such a harsh word. Perhaps you should look at it as enhancing your shaving options....

They both make nice razors Merkur and EJ. The Merkurs are a little more aggressive. I love the all time favorite the Merkur 34c which is the most sold razor in the world. I can see why, it is perfectly balanced I think. Keep the EJ and get a Merkur. Then you will have the best of both worlds.

I just don't get as close as I would like. Sometimes I will do 4 passes, but still have some rough spots in the neck area. Could be technique, but have been using it for a year. Does Mer still modify the progress?
I love my Merkur, keep the EJ and buy the Merkur... if anything it means you have options and an easier time when it comes to travel.
I've owned both, and like the EJ a little better. You might the Merkur more.

Keep your Jagger for a little while as you try different razors out.
You may find that once you improve your shaving technique that the DE89 will just the ticket for you.
I still have one of these razors and every time I think I might want to sell it, I use it and get a fantastic shave so it goes back in the drawer until the next time I think it might need to find another home. This in, out, use, back in process has been going on for a long time now so it more than likely will just stick around permanently.
If you want to try a razor that is milder than your Jagger but a lot more efficient at mowing down the whiskers grab one of the Merkur slants. Either the 37c short handle or the 39c long handle.
You will be amazed at how smooth it shaves yet how close of a shave you get.

I haven't used the progress but nine times out of ten I get a BBS shave with my Merkur. If you aren't sure I would go with the crowd favourite, when you have more money in the budget again pick up the progress. Just accept the RAD
I have four razors in my present rotation that I think fully satisfy my "hardware" needs at present, including the DE 89. The others are the R41, Mergress Long Knob and most recently, the 39C. They all perform a function with the DE 89 being representative of a good basic mild shave. I would keep and add the Mergress if you can, although the 39C is really growing on me. I've tried the basic Gillettes and wasn't impressed - think the newer razor's head design is superior. YMMV. Good luck.
I've owned both, and as for me I really didn't care for the EJ. Now 3 of my 4 DE's are Merkur, and I have no need of getting anything else. I'm very happy with my Merkur's.
