Ships To

I recently offered a non shaving item on eBay with the "ships to" listed as the United States with no other location mentioned. At the last minute of bidding a guy wins the item and I get an email from eBay that the shipping address is in Spain. Eventually the guy gives me a U.S. address and I shipped the item.

My question is: When you say on eBay ships to United States why did they accept the bid knowing the customer address was outside my area of shipping?

Maybe he has a P.O. box in the states. Happened to me once too... listed a razor as ship to US only but the winning bidders address was in Singapore. The guy then emailed me with instructions to mail it to a US address in FL.

it is very annoying when people "acidently" misread auctions, for instance we were once selling an old style (not lcd or plasma but crt) 35 inch tv that weighed 99kgs so we put "postage and packaging free-collection in person", the auction finished for about £20 and shortly after i recieved an email from the buyer who was in ireland asking by what method i intended to ship it to him for free, suffice to say we still have the tv.

The buyer clearly gave an address in Spain. This was eBays fault as they saw my shipping instructions said ships to US.. The buyer then changed it to a physical address in the States.

You are correct buyers don't always read all the information because they are so excited about winning the bid.

If his paypal address isn't confirmed I would certainly consider not shipping it. Lots of scams by buyers who claim to never recieve items.

it's heard to say. If he had not given a US address you would have been well within your rights to refuse his bid and deny the sale.

Well yes and no, if I try and bring up an item on ebay.com that is blocked to Non CONUS bidders it won't let me bid. BUT if I access the listing through another ebay like say ebay.com.au then I can bid.

If I see an item I want that is US only I always send them a message anyway, quite often they say sure you can bid if your willing to pay the postage. If they don't then I don't bid, unless I really really want it in which case I'll send a second message asking if they are okay with me having the item mailed to a friend in the states who will act as a middleman, often this is quite acceptable but some dislike the idea so I don't bid.

You can block bidders that are not in the USA.
Do not approve that advice. You just may lose good clients.I do not understand the american sellers who don't want to earn some additional money - an experienced buyer like me for example will ask before bidding about the possibility of shipping outside the USA and even explain the process if really interested in the item, which is shipped within the USA only. Also i have the Ebay registered address in the States to use it too.And more info for you - the confirmed PP addresses are only in the States and 2 more coutries if i'm not mistaken - all the others are veryfied only like mine. When you are too lazy or think its a big hassle to ship outside the States your just losing money.A fresh example - a seller acknowledged to me that he's so afraid starting shipping outside the States by Priority, its ridiculous, he cant believe that everything can be insured and tracked:w00t:

We've been all through this numerous times in numerous different threads.
For me, it is just NOT worth the extra hassle involved to ship overseas.
I have done it before. I will do it again. But it will remain the exception not the rule.
People who do not regularly ship stuff have a great deal of hassle to go through to ship out of the US.
I don't want to spend hours of my life at a postal facility so I can ship something out of the US.
Please contact the United States Postal Service and have them change the way they do business and I'll reconsider.

I'm just sayin'
