What's new

shelf life?

I own one brush...the omega boar 'Pro', the well known big one that I got with my starter kit and I've had it for almost 2 years now. I start to develop interest for brushes - although I'm very happy with my boar brush!- and also my brush has shed a few bristles over time and I'm wondering how long a brush like that one can last. I'm not looking at a good reason to buy a new brush, but one is never too careful to plan ahead, right?! Also, much to my shame, I have to say that I never bothered to take care of the brush, but I will do so promptly as I read a ton of threads talking about soaking the brush in vinegar etc...

A good brush can last many years.
An Aussie friend of mine mistreated his cheap boar brush and it's lasted ten years so far.
He just got a new Silvertip badger and given his old boar to his teenage son.

If you shave every day, it would be a good idea to get another brush to let the Omega dry out fully in-between uses.
It should last longer if you rotate at least one more other brush with the Pro.

Hmm.... usually you see a thread title like this in the Shaving Cream forum.... or Aftershave forum . I agree with the above, it may not be a bad idea to have a second brush anyway just to rotate and let them dry out. Constant moisture and wetness can only lead to rot of the knot eventually..... although it could take years and years from what I've read others say.

Good advice, Lucas!
