shaving with baby oil

Thought about it, but never tried. I figured it would probably lead to pimple city. Besides it doesn't smell half as good as most of creams, soaps.

Why would you want to? Try it. My guess is it will clog and gum everything up giving little to no glide contributing to frustration and nicks.

I tried it years ago. It formed a goo with the cut hairs and was very difficult to wash out of the razor. I also had to wipe my face with paper towels to keep the oil off the cloth towels.

It was lubricating, though. For maybe half a pass until it gunked up. I suppose you could do it with a straight if you kept wiping it off - rinsing doesn't help much.

I have used it in the past when I still shaved in the shower. It is very messy and just gunks up your razor. Clean up was a mess and I used a pump bottle to pour it out (after dropping the baby oil bottle in the shower!). The bath tub was very slippery and just a joke. I would never do it again!

I've done it many times and I got relatively good shaves. The only thing I didn't like was... baby oil is mainly mineral oil and after doing some research, it's not the best of oils to put on your face; it clogs the pores and prevents the skin from releasing toxins. You may want to try using some organic coconut oil instead; same type of performance with a better oil, although more expensive; it still seems to have a bit of a pore clogging effect but not as much as baby oil. Even though I can get a good shaving with baby oil or coconut oil, I really love the luxury of a nice scented lather and the feeling of using a shaving brush.

Agree with the posts on clogging, never shaved with it but tried it as a pre shave and my razor was full of gunk.

Not really a great idea alone- tried oils and they do not really give a good shave. Now, a few drops as a pre-shave can work well. Try a few drops, say three, on wet palms, rub and apply to a wet face, then lather and shave. You might be quite surprised at what a good shave you can get.

I use a pre-shave oil daily; although there is much debate around here about the practice it works for me.

Nope.
Soap and creams work just fine without clogging everything up, and smell great.

Leave baby oil for its intended purpose - Lubricating squeaky babies.

I think you are right. A little goes a very long way and when you use a few drops, chances are low you will clog up your razor.

I added a little to my homebrew pre shave oil. I wouldn't use it straight. Too thick. If clogging is a problem, use a Gem or an Injector. I can shave a week's worth of growth with no clogging, using my old injectors.

My pre shave oil has lavender, clove, citronella, tea tree, and olive oils, with a tiny bit of vitamin E and baby oil. Pure vitamin E oil, that is.
