Shaving under the influence. (SUI)

I'm sure it has happened with many, but thought I would start a thread to give your stories. LOL!

i did the other night when I knew I wouldn't have time in the morning. Wow what a mistake. Lather was subpar, and I lost track of how many passes I made. I didn't cut myself, but I took off way too much skin. Wasn't smooth either. My skin felt really strange the next day. This was 2 days ago, and I still am hesitant to pick up my razor.

I got moves like Jagger
Not so horrible with a DE, but stay away from doing it with a straight.
Pay no attention to the YouTube idjits who swig and swipe.

Careful what you wish for when you post a thread like this. Last one I remember seeing got quite a bit of stern "you might have a drinking problem" backlash, so I hope you have thick skin!

I don't have a problem. I had a gathering at the house. Saw the time and went for a shave. Lesson learned.

I wasn't implying anything. I was against all the backlash last time. Didn't mean to buzzkill your thread. Just a friendly heads-up, thats all.

I didn't think you were. My skin is thick. Also to point out this is in no way a troll thread.

Thankfully... I have not had a SUI but I'm going to learn through you. I'm glad that you didn't nick yourself.

Good thinking. LOL. I didn't nick myself, but obviously my prep, lather, and technique were all off, as was I. Not even terrible burn, but my skin just felt really awkward. As in way too many passes and too much skin removed. My skin is much better, but I may grow a couple more days on my beard and go with my DE89 at first.

One day a had 3 strong drinks and felt a little buzzed. Started having thoughts that a shave would be nice. Then I figured that since I'm kind of new to this and a little buzzed, that I'd be better waiting until the morning. I wasn't seeing anyone or going anywhere anyway.

Don't regret that decision. My best shaves have came when I put in extra focus on what I'm doing. I'm sure I could do it, but it's most likely going to be just a sub par shave and the likelyhood of cutting myself would increase.

There's a YouTube video about some British guy who puts away a whole pint of Bell's whiskey and chases it with a can of beer and chain-smokes while he lathers and shaves with a straight. By the end of the video, he's a bloody mess, but he's so plastered he doesn't care.

I wish I could find that video, but its more about the joys of drinking than it is about wet-shaving.

I did it while on vacation a couple weeks ago. I had a bunch of drinks at the ocean-side bar during the afternoon, while enjoying the view and weather. I remembered I was going to a nice restaurant later, so I went to take a shower and noticed I needed a shave. I had a nice buzz going, but not sloppy drunk. Long story short... no issues at all.

I've been DE shaving for a couple of months now and have only had one very minor cut. It's going so well that I think I'll eventually try a straight.

I think it was more my lack of prep, and less attention to passes.  This was at past midnight.  I have had one before dinner with a few drinks and the result was different.  My lather and process of passes are inconsistent no matter sober or buzzed.  It isn't muscle memory to me yet.

Once. Never again. Saturday night "Luxury Shave" but instead of an après drink I had a few stiff belts before. With a freshly loaded Feather proceeded to give myself the "worst-burn-ever" shave.

Like I said; never again.

Wow, that does sound dangerous to say the least

Granted it is very seldom i use enough alcohol to become influenced (having expensive habits and the outrageous prices of single malt whisky helps i guess) but should i do that i don't think i would dare go near a blade.

I've had a couple of shaves in "the morning after the night before" situations when I had a shaky hand, poor coordination and couldn't concentrate due to a killer headache... they weren't fun either!

While I have done this.(mostly 4 drinks or less). I use my gold tech. Usual prep, 2-3 pass. might just use dove soap and I am good with no problems. Would NOT use a straight. Or any other razor just my tech. But I don't recommend this idea.

i've thought about it before. feeling pretty good from a light buzz and then decided that it wouldn't be pleasant, not unlike a tired morning shave..
