Shaving term explained

Ok please don't laugh me out of the forum for this question...... I have exhausted all options I've actually googled this too..... I understand what BBS is and assume that I understand what that should feel like after I have shaved. What is sticky smooth shave mean ? I'm at a loss I feel like a idiot but I'm uber curious as to what this means and what it should feel like. I'm a noob if you haven't already assumed that. Thanks in advance.

Sticky smooth may be a derivative of Silky Smooth. I have heard, and seen people say "Sicky smoove" as sort of a mispronounciation of Silky Smooth. Could be?

Never heard that expression.
Where did you hear about it?

I've read about it here on B&B just on random posts about getting a BBS shave or a Sticky smooth shave. i have kinda assumed that it meant doing a 2 pass shave so it feels smooth WTG XTG but maybe a bit prickly going ATG ???? I don't know though that's just a guess as it seems that people use the term sticky smooth when it is less than a BBS shave.

Both times by DogHair. But it occurs much more frequently on another shaving forum.

I have no idea what it means, but in context, sounds like something good.

I believe it basically means that the surface (i.e. your face) is so smooth there is nothing protruding to break the surface tension, so another smooth surface (your fingers) just "stick" to it. Think of it as two very smooth and wet surfaces being rubbed together. Since there are no irregularities to allow air between them, suction occurs and they stick together.

For all intents and purposes, it's a BBS shave.

wow - this question is popular! dude, see the ShaveWiki at the top of the page then B&B Abbreviations => http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Abbreviations

too easy!!!

your google fu is weak my friend, I just typed 'bbs' and 'shaving' and got 850,000 results in 0.20 seconds...

*koffahem* There's nothing about 'sticky smooth' in the wiki which is what he's asking about. Reading posts is popular too, and also easy.

i haven't heard of sticky smooth.. i too googled, but actually read the OP and used sticky smooth http://misterclarke.wordpress.com/edmund-de-waal-essay-sticky-smooth/

i am thinking sticky is a analogy like sticky fingers aka five fingered discount

Sticky Smooth
This extract is taken from a paper written by Edmund de Waal (Think Tank) for the fourth exhibition and publication entitled ‘Gift’. Here he discusses Alfred Gell’s idea of decoration as adhesive or in de Waal’s term ‘stickiness’ and considers this in relation to the work of the silversmith, David Clarke.

…I started by thinking about decoration as stickiness, of Gell’s idea of decoration as adhesive.

Talking to David Clarke brought this alive to me as a silversmith he has begun to find smoothness problematic. One way he found of dealing with this was to attack the surface of the silver with salt and lead, to scar it.

Another was to find sticky objects. He bids for objects on Ebay that have had no other bids. They arrive he says, literally sticky, smelling of cigarette-smoke and polish wrapped in newspaper. They are sticky in that they are unwanted, commodities that have got stuck. And they function as traps: highly decorated metal birdlime.

He cuts them up, elongates, foreshortens, wraps them heightened and truncated so that dissonant patterns are created and decoration subverted. Their functionality is not so much borrowed as nicked.

This is not a gift. It is a steal. Smoothness is added to bits of his objects, like botox.

or perhaps it's referring to the skills of some odd dance battler

oxymorons are popular with the young crowd. My guess is that it is some made up jive talk.

I thought J-Mills was ruining that boy till the end then Sticky Smooth finally showed up and busted on that fool. Sticky Smooth baby!

Yes BBS does come up in a search Sticky smooth does not..... What will come up is a bunch of forums like here or striaght razor place where people use the term but no explination is truly given so the reader is left to decipher for themselves the meaning implied.

As to the wiki.... nah... not a answer there I appreciate seeing it though as it will help me with abv's but as to sticky smooth shave it's not there so .........
