Shaving stick

Hello!

I just bought an Palmolive shaving stick after reading the reviews I got curious about it but..

How do you do with it? Do I put my brush on it and lather up that way or try to smear it on my face or what?..

I realy got no idea :)

Thanks for great reviews and great help!

Nilserik,

You can soak the end of the stick in warm water for a minute or so; this will soften the soap up and allow easier application to the face.

You can also load your brush direct from the stick if you prefer.

I think the tallow based Palmolive sticks are great :001_smile

Have fun !

I have a couple shave sticks from QED and I always run the soap under some hot water (after my pre-shave routine) and then apply it to my face in a circular motion allowing the soap to be collected by my stubble. Once I can see a thin film form I face lather away with my brush... works great for me!

I haven't used any tallow based products, how do they compare?

Wet face, dip the end of the stick in warm water and scuff the stick all over your beard, leaving a generous coating of soap. Use a damp/wet shave brush to work up a lather directly on your face. Work the lather for a couple of minutes and when the lather becomes rich and dense, and looks like a coating wet frosting or a coating of yogurt on your face, you're good to go. The brush should still contain enough lather for a couple of subsequent passes.

It may take a couple of uses to become proficient when face lathering if you've been using a traditional soap and lathering in a mug or bowl.

Some users mill the stick and press the soap flakes into a bowl or mug for use as a traditional shave soap. While this works, I do not recommend this practice and believe the Palmolive works better in stick form.

The Palmolive shave stick is a low price product that is an excellent performer and it has quite a following. It is a tallow based shave soap, lubricates well, softens whiskers, gives a lush, dense lather. Recommended.

Thanks guys.

Now I just took a shaving with it and I must say.. It's great!

Bought an L'occitane Cade shaving soap not so long ago, and I must say.. Not sure whos best! and since the palmolive was 5 times cheaper and only half the size 50g vs 100g I didn't expect this from it

I will see on Thursday when I accumulated some beard after a working week.
Which one feels best.

Palmolive works wonderfully, as do so many of the other tallow based sticks. It just proves the point that you don't have to drop $10 on a soap to get a great shave.

I have been trying several different shave sticks lately and Palmolive is by far my favorite. Tallow has worked the best for me so far.

Shaneburns,

The Palmolive seems to come in two (2) versions.

One is coconut/palm based, the other tallow/coconut/palm based.

The tallow ones are made in Germany (at least the ones I have).

Both make excellent lather, but for me, the tallow based one is makes for the better shave :001_smile

Have fun !

Y'all may want to try La Toja shave stick.
It puts most tallow based soaps to shame.
I consider it to be "MWF-in-shave-stick-format".

I've been collecting shave sticks for about a year. I have SIM, La Toja, Arko, Erasmic, Palmolive, Ogallala Bay Rum, and most recently scored a Speick.

Believe it or not, most of them are unused, because I had so many other soaps and creams at my disposal.

I started using the Speick stick last week. I had to try it because none of the other soaps are quite like it, and I've been reading so many good reviews. Now, I see those reviews are well deserved.

I do have a question, though ... how do you store the stick in between uses? I've been putting the Spieck stick back in the box, and I only unwrapped about an inch of the tin-foil it came in ... but this seems kind of messy, and a lot of times it gets stuck to the inside of the box.

Is there a better method? My LaToja sticks came with their own little plastic container, and of course the Ogallala Bay Rum is in a twist-up tube. But nothing like that for the other brands.

So how do you store a Spieck stick?

I've been thinking about getting a prescription bottle from the pharmacy ... or is there a better method? Or maybe some product that will fit it perfectly?

I store my Speick stick in it's box. The box should do just fine. By the time you have finished shaving, the stick is dry again, so you could put it back in the box. No problems there. Just make sure your hands are not wet.
The box is quite good, better than Palmolive's
