Shaving spots on head

I shave my head because i'm balding ....anyway. I ALWAYS get spots on my head...loads and loads.

Once i've finished shaving they're red and inflamed, but normally the redness and some spots go down after a while. But there are still a few spots left.

Even when i don’t shave my hair, I always seem to get spots on my head...why!!!

I shower everyday and rinse my head, so not exactly like i'm leaving it dirty

Anyone have any ideas how to stop/reduce them?

PS: Tried using a head blade recently ..and it saves time, but I end up cutting the spots. Hardly ever cut them when i just use the my fusion razor

PPS: Head blade is a good way to shave your head if you want to save time, but does not get as close as the fusion.

If you use some sort of gentle cleanser on your face, I would suggest trying that on your head as well rather than just rinsing with water. I also apply alum after shaving my head and that seems to help.

I dont use anything for my face as such.

I use face scrub about twice a week, but that's all.

Any thing in particular you suggest?

This is a tricky issue, as it could have any number of causes. In the end, if it's truly bothersome, you may wish to see a doctor/dermatologist to find out what's going on.

Having said that, I have a few thoughts. First, a Fusion is a very aggressive razor, and could be causing or contributing to ingrowns or other forms of shaving irritation. You could try a less aggressive razor, or you might want to stop shaving for a while altogether, and use a trimmer instead. I know you say you still get the spots even when you don't shave, but how long are you going without shaving? If the spots are from shaving, it may take a while to get them to go away. Resorting to trimming, which doesn't have the danger of ingrown hairs like blade shaving does, might give your head enough time to recover. Just be sure to get something like Clippercide to keep the blades disinfected, or you might be going from the frying pan into the fire.

You might try a gentle cleanser daily for both face and head, and continue with the periodic scrubbing, using it on your head as well (only after your spots go away). Nancy Boy makes an excellent facial cleanser, as does Art of Shaving - although Nancy Boy is the more affordable option. (Also, be advised, Art of Shaving cleanser produces extremely little lather, which is not to everyone's taste. The Nancy Boy is more conventional in that regard.) If you opt for a different brand, try to find one that does not contain Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate (SLS), as some people can actually break out from those.

On a similar note, I have had issues breaking out along my hairline from certain shampoos containing SLS. I use Nioxin to help get rid of "scalp stink," for which it works excellently, but if I use it too often, breakout city.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted.

I used to trim my hair before i started shaving. I still used to get spots, but as it wasn't as close i couldn't see it my scalp was as red or had any breakouts.

Maybe as you say i should go a few weeks without shaving, then trim and THEN shave to let any stubborn hairs grow out or something

What are the nature of these spots? I was assuming they were something akin to a razor bump or an ingrown, but if you got them even before shaving, then perhaps not.

Could it be psoriasis or something similar? I'd suggest seeing a dermatologist for sure. May as well learn what it really is so you'll know how to combat it properly.

So I have a 4 day weekend. Today I had a GP appointment booked for a follow up to some physiotherapy (tore my back ligaments years ago)...anyway while I was there I had to get my throat checked out, as I have a infection at the mo. During my chat I asked about my head, and he actually gave me some anti-biotics which he should may cure both...not expecting them to do much for my head. But fingers crossed and all that

Good luck with the anti-biotics. I've been oil cleansing for a week and it is helping with the red bumps on my scalp. Might want to ask the doc about that before you try it though.

Cumin, when you say "spots," do you mean what we Americans call "Zits," or acne? I'd agree with HoratioCaine to use cleanser for your head, and look for a razor that is fewer blades than a Fusion - you may be getting spots because of the multiblade razoer.

Me, I use a SuperSpeed double-edge for my head, as everyone on here now knows.

Also feel free to join the Head Shaver's group and look for advice from those folks as well.

Good luck.

If the doctor thinks antibiotics will help with the spots, it's a good bet he thinks they're caused by a bacterial infection. If they go away with the use of the antibiotics, that'll tell you if they actually are infection related. If they come back again following treatment, that'll tell you it's something in your routine that's causing them, and you'll have to do some investigating to get to the root of it.

I'm still curious as to what these "spots" are like. Can you fill us in a little more?
