Shaving Powder?

Gentlemen, I've seen this at Walmart and other places: shaving powder, such as the one pictured below..


I don't think I'm tempted to try it, but I am curious. I assume you mix the powder with water to make a lather for shaving. Has anyone tried it, or does anyone currently use it?

It's not used to make lather, it makes a depilatory (chemically dissolves hair, like Nair).

Edited to add: Be aware that the active ingredients also chemically weaken skin, so an incautious user can burn themself badly.

It's used like regular baby powder. Apply it dry to your just shaved face/neck. My barber puts some on a brush and applies it to the back of my neck after a hair cut. I don't know what powder barbers use, but it's been the same scent my entire life...

Please tell me you're kidding. Leaving depilatory powder on your skin sounds like a great way to get a chemical burn. Are you quite certain it's the same product? Because I've used the Magic brand pre-mixed depilatory many many times, and am very familiar with its properties.

No, barbers don't use the same product, but they do use powder. It was just for comparison sake since the OP didn't know how it was used.

Some of the black guys in boot camp had Very bad razor bumps in boot camp and had to use this.

It absolutely does stink very bad.

Ha, exactly. We used to give the guys that had to use it a hard time (joking) and they hated hated having to use the stuff.
