Shaving oil for sensitive neck?

My Feather AS-D1 and good slick shaving cream can still irritate my neck even with good techniques. I am wondering if shaving oil prior to lathering would help. Any other ideas?

I use a home-made preshave of grapeseed oil, glycerin and lanolin in a 4:2:1 ratio. All products are fantastic for the skin and it produces a really nice layer of lubrication.

I use straights so the oil makes it hard to stretch, but what I found is a preshave like proraso really softened up the whiskers. The oil might work for you, just not in my case. YMMV.

Shave oil afterwards wouldn't hurt either. The oils for skin have healing/soothing properties. Try ones with grapeseed, macadamia nut, or olive oil.

I will use shave oil afterwards as well, essentially they are the ingredients in any good moisturizer.

I use Shave Secret oil. You can pick up a bottle for a few dollars at Walmart. I use it before I lather up and it really seems to make a difference. Face always comes out nice and smooth with no irritation.

Personally, I don't like Shave Secret(clove smell) or AOS(thick) but the Truefitt and Hill oil seems to be really nice.

its relatively easy to raid the kitchen for some oil to see if it would help. Wouldn't cost anything and you would have an idea if it would help

Give Noxema a try before each pass. I've tried shave secret and some oils costing three times as much and none of them are anywhere as good as Noxema.

You didn't mention what blades you're using, but I'd suggest perhaps a change there. Often, mild razors like the Feather pair well with sharp blades (again, like the Feather), but if that's what you're already using perhaps a switch to Personna Labs or Gillette Blacks might improve things.

I have been using pre-shave oil for many years. I originally used T&H but now use my own formula. Just go to the wiki and look for the pre shave oils and creams. Lately I apply it on my final ATG pass on my neck
