Shaving Cream From Egypt. . .Have You Seen This?

I received a package in the mail today from friends of mine stationed in Cairo, Egypt. The package was (4) tubes of shaving cream, (6) Lord [S625] DE razors, and (1) shaving brush. Are any of you familiar with this Lord razor or Man Look shaving cream?

Any information you have would be welcomed!

Thanks!

Never saw those. I knew that Lord was making razors (on top of razor blades) but I never saw one.

For the cream, I think I only know Ingrams, I'm wondering how it compares...

. . .that is nice to know I had no idea nor would I have guessed that much. Jon, thank you for the information I really appreciate it.

One of the shaving creams has Double Mint in it and the other has Aloe for sensitive skin. Although I didn't shave with it tonight, I did whip up a bowl of the Double Mint with my Penworks Silvertip brush. . .and generated a great looking leather. I will give the Aloe a try in the morning when I shave. . .I will let you know how it goes! I may even give one of the Lord razors a try too. . .

It's amazing.:001_smile They built the Pyramid's while we were still living in caves, and they are now streets ahead of the hi-tech Western World in regards to proper shaving.

The razor is a Lord Smart, i had one , quite a good shaver for the price.
Gives a very good shave, a bit like an HD.

I fully agree with you. I have the Lord LP1822 (which is the same head on a aluminum handle), and it is a phenomenal shaver. The head is very much like that of a Merkur, it was probably their intent to clone it.

The Lord Smart having a plastic handle is a bit head heavy, but still provides a great shave.

Here is the Lord website for anyone that is interested:

Well, I find two things interesting here...

First of all, some of the names that these products get. I don't know if it's a product of the translation of the name to English or something like that, but personally I just can't see an American or European manufacturer coming out and labeling their shaving cream "MAN Look".

Second, the fact that Egypt not only produces shaving products, but produces some pretty good ones, surprises me as well. I was under the (mistaken?) impression that Egypt was a mostly Islamic country. Now, last I heard, growing a beard was a requirement of that particular religion, similar to how married Amish grow a beard. Or, perhaps this is something that applies only to certain groups or certain variations on the religion, or has fallen out of style as it were. Either way the Lord company produces some pretty respectable products.

I shared your surprise re: Middle Eastern shaving. However, I read somewhere that since Middle Easterners tend to have thicker beards than Europeans and Americans (or at least, because that is the perception), companies have produced sharper and generally higher-quality blades for those regions, for example.

IIRC, Islamic Men are required under Islamic Law to shave their underarms and "other areas" monthly or so for basically hygenic reasons. But, yes, facial hair is required at all times, as I understand it.

It seems you have there a Lord S625 razor (same as the Asco A225). They are clones of the European Gillette G100 and G2000 of the 70's and 80's. Silo doors, TTO, plastic handle. I have myself a Gillette G1000 but find it a tad agressive. But the white pack Lord DE Platinum is a nice product such as the Lord L6 razor.

About beards in Egypt, some have them, some haven't...some are believers going each friday to mosque, some don't go at all.A lots of grays areas between what is said on newspapers and TV and local way of life.
