Shaving Bowl and Refill Size

Carefree Cutter

Hi

I'm interested in getting some shaving soap in the nice looking wooden bowls. I'll then buy refills in future.

I was just wondering if there is a standard size for these refills, so that if I buy a bowl from e.g. Geo F Trumper, I'll still be able to use it will refills from DR Harris, Taylor of Old Bond Street, Penhaligons etc.

Short of buying one from each (impossible), I thought asking here would be the best idea, as all of these products have been tested at some point by members of this forum.

For example, if I buy this bowl:

Will these refills also fit (they look similar in shape ... like a dish):

Thanks.

Different companies have different size pucks and may not exactly fit in the bowl of another company.

But dude. It is soap. You are a higher mammal. You can make it do whatever you want. Trim it, mill it, melt it. You can put it in any container you want.

If I'd be buying different pucks in the future (and not use them all at oncce) I'd buy a metal or plastic container. They're not expensive and you won't have to clean em for first use.

Don't melt it if it's not a glycerine soap!

But trimming and milling ... sure!

Thanks for asking. I was wondering the same thing. Those bowls are expensive! For one MÜHLE (Edwin Jagger) soap with a bowl I can get 5 refills :001_huh:.

Best thing to do is use a vegetable pealer to shave the soap to fit your bowl, take the shavings and place them at the bottom of the bowl, press your soap on top of the shavings and your good.

They pretty much all fit this way ...

Puck of soap and Anchor Hocking bowl ...

Put puck in bowl ...

... no need to buy fancy uni-brand wooden PITAs.
