shaving at the gym

So, I recently started going to the gym on mwf mornings, and have just been skipping shaving those days. Now, as long as I get a bbs shave the day before I'm not too bad. But I feel so strange not shaving, and figured I have two options. Wake up earlier and do a quick shave, or make up a shave kit for at the gym and shave st the gym. So I figured I'd ask if anyone shaves at the gym, and if so what works for them.

I shave at the gym 1-2 mornings a week. I have a shave kit dedicated to my gym shaves (EJ89, Arko stick, Simpsons Wee Scot, Nivea ASB) and a lot of the guys comment on seeing someone wetshave. It's a great way to spread the word that there's another way to shave than carts and goo.

By the way, you know you've been on B&B too long when you read "mwf mornings" and ask yourself, "What's a Mitchell's Wool Fat morning?"

This is a fantastic idea, I may have to give this a go - always great to spread the word!

And that MWF comment is too true

Ok, now I just need to get my new brush in, and maybe I can pick up a vintage razor as a part of a gym kit (only have one razor right now)

LOL - this same thread came up about a month ago.

I learned that I am apparently in the minority holding the viewpoint that this type of behavior in a gym locker room is inappropriate.

The times that I've done it, I first plan it out, and bring whichever razor I'm going to use, and a container of shave soap. I bring along my Dovo travel brush, and just go at it in the locker room. I don't do it often, but when I do its never been a problem as others will shave there too. If I bring my straight, I use a disposable blade straight, it'll often bring on a few questions, but I've been going to this gym for 3 years, and the time I go usually has around the same members there also.

Gym shaver 5 days a week here. I have a dopp kit that lives in the gym bag. The shave gear all fits--even a plastic mirror and suction cup to shower shave. One additional suggestion is using a synthetic brush.

Wow - shaving in the shower at the gym? Now I've heard it all.

the steam room at my gym actually has a sign posted that says no shaving in the steam room. Do guys really need to be told that?

I have a gym dopp kit and have a superspeed and an Omega 10019 boar dedicated to it. I bought little 1 oz flip top bottles from REI (or the container store, or EMS) to hold my witch hazel and AV Ice Blue. I have a small container for Proraso pre shave as well. For soap I have Arko loaded in an old glue stick container, as well as a Proraso Red in one of those 1 oz bottles.

After some practice, shaving at the gym becomes a routine. Just air dry your brush afterwards, regardless of it's container... let it dry on the shelf at night. Even with my brush container which has holes, it's not enough air flow and can get funky.

Your gym bag has more room than your carry on luggage, typically. Plenty of room.

I don't shave at the gym, but I travel around colleges so often stay in residences with shared washrooms. My basic kit travel it is:

Weishi gunmetal finish:
it's cheap and no great loss if something happens to it, TTO is just more practical on the road, and a mild razor is good as lighting and mirrors are very variable.

L'Occitane travel brush:
small and compact, nice mental case, synthetic so isn't harmed by putting away still wet.

La Toja soap stick:
stick is the only practical way to go, La Toja is equal to the best sticks and comes with a great plastic container

RasoRoc small alum block:
because I still had space in the kit.

If you still want to have a relaxed shave, do it the night before. I prefer to shave in the mornings but if I have to be up early and don't want to quick shave I just shave before bed.

Yeah, why waste the best time to shave? I take a shower before I leave the gym so I shave as well. I just wrap a brush in a bit of paper towel, take a tech that lives in a bandaid tin and toss a blade in next to it, a tube of shave cream and toss it all in my dopp bag. I have to face lather but other than that, no big deal. Just remember to take the brush out so it can dry as soon as you get home.
