Shavette question

I know the best is feather, and I already have a SR Ralf Aust. Looking for a good shavette to travel with. I was looking at the parker vs dreadnought. Which is better and any other suggestions?

I got moves like Jagger
I use a Sanguine, which has the same type of blade holder as the Parker. I've tried the slide-in ones (like the Magic shavette) and didn't like them at all.

The Kai razors are also as good as Feathers IMO, with matching price tags!

As far as cheaper models go, I've tried the Parker SR1 and used it with great success once I got used to it. Even cheaper still are some of the Sanguine models, (Cool Cut models if i remember correctly) which I've read some positive comments about several times. I've never tried a Dreadnought but I'm sure someone will come along with comments soon!

WECK is a great way to go and cost is low compared to a feather. the WECK really surprised me at how good it was and i am a 6-7 yrs in with a straight.

Any other people I'm looking at the one so far suggested but still looking for someone who has used in Dreadnought.

I have a Feather AC DX and two Dovos. The Dovos have seen lots of travel and are my preferred choice for that use. Might try a Parker. Never seen the Dreadnought.

Well I order the parker sr1 to give it a try it's only $20 and will arrive today so I will give it a test drive tonight.

I think you'll enjoy it. Just take it slow and steady; depending what blade you use they can can be utterly lethal! My missus has taken to calling me jonny depp this week because I slipped and gave myself a nice "duelling scar" on my cheek! Lol!

I've used them before I just wanted a better one than the magic shavette junk I was using while on vacation this year.

I have a Dovo and a feather, and I think I might actually like the Dovo better. Something about the way the feather tries to rotate in my hand due to the head-weight. On the other hand, if you like a light razor, the Dovo has you covered.

The Dreadnought one (Bluebeards Revenge over hnyah) has reliability issues. Sure it's cheap and cheerful, but some people have reported it breaking, coming lose etc. It's a shame as I like BR but maybe go for something better. The Dovo Shavette would be a good buy I think.

With the Dovo, you also get the option of different blade holders that give you more options as to the types of blades you can choose from. Personally, I use the green holder with the Personna shaper blades. Its a little more cutting edge than a half-DE, and they seem to last a little longer in the rotation too.

Ok I have done my test shave with the Parker SR1... My thoughts on this shavette is that the blade handle is way to thin and comparing it to the Magic. The magic is better built and I'm able to get a better shave with the magic. I tried three different se blades shark, se doall blades from the local hair shop, and de blade persona. I still like my SR better but if I'm traveling I'm taking the magic with me.

FYI... the Dreadnaught is a rebranded Sanguine. Sanguine and the Parker SRs have the same design. The new Parker PTB is designed like the Magic. I like the Parkers SRs and the PTB, but they aren't my favorite. Because of the thin blade handle on the SRs, I do prefer the PTB because it is easier to hold and the shave angle is more natural.

My favorites are the Feather AC SS, and the Weck. For the money, the Weck is the one I recommend most. The Feather is great, but it does not shave 10 times better than the Weck. The replacement blades on the Weck are cheaper too.

I guess the prices are affected a lot by where you live.
Here in Japan, I can get a new Artist club SS for 57 US dollars, and 20 feather blades for a fifth of that, whereas if I added shipping costs to getting a weck and blades (each time i ordered) from overseas, I think they would end up costing more.
Even the high end razors, such as the Kai Captain Excelia, I've seen for as little as 125 dollars, but generally they're 168 dollars or so, which I still think is less than I see them going for on overseas sites.
I wish the Weck and blades were available over here though, because I'd love to try them out!
