Shaveapocalypse?

So I read alot about the "Shaveapocalypse" on B&B and people hoarding soaps and blades... etc.
I only know about Swedish G's being discontinued and Yardley and Old Spice soaps not being available anymore.
But what other items were around (recently?) that have been discontinued? Finally settled on a couple of brands of razor blades in bulk myself ....
but is the Shaveapocalypse based on recent items being discontinued or is it just the nature of a hobby that is not supported by main stream companies?

Thanks.

It's a good way to rationalize the purchase of products that will last us years into the future (with no other valid excuse).

There have been several tallow-based soaps that have been reformulated to all vegetable-derived formulations causing some concern. Also, for instance, Tom's of Maine recently discontinued its line of shave creams.

What he said. And while I doubt Feather will be going out of business or discontinue their DE blades anytime soon, I intend to buy 100pc at a time until I have enough blades to carry me to the grave. At current pace, I need... 5400 more blades.

Was it TOM that did that, or was it because P&G were buying them in short order? I'm not sure TBH.

Indeed. I'm glad that I started stocking up on "Swedish" Gillettes before there was any sign of them going to be discontinued.

There was a thread with rumor a while back about Aqua Velva switching from glass to plastic containers. I freaked and went down to Walmart where they stock the large bottles of AV and I bought a few on a one time spree. I see they're still stocking the glass bottles these days though. I should have been hoarding the VDHd pucks 'cause I can't find them locally anymore!

Was just at Walmart. They had VDH pucks and starter kits. All is well.

Hence the arrival of my bulk of VDH Deluxe.

Well, I no longer have to worry if the quit stocking it or not. My friend Amazon has relieved my worries.

The local WMs here are stocking it pretty good, but I hear it is disappearing at some.

I've been seeing the VDH Deluxe, but not the VDH Glycerin lately.

I have never seen the glycerin. I would like to try it, but Amazon only carries the 12 pack.

P&G bought Tom's of Maine?

It was Colgate who bought Toms of Maine in 2006. They have already discontinued the shaving cream (I liked the mint), but it may still be available at online drugstore.com while supplies last.

I had contacted Toms and was told that it was discontinued due to lack of sales.

I picked up a tube of the Mint and the Calendula about 6 weeks ago from there. They no longer list the mint and they show the calendula as back ordered. :frown:

You can still get Old Spice shaving cream from online vendors in India. It's pretty good stuff, I've stocked up on 6 tubes.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't C&E discontinue several lines of their shave cream, like nomad and sweet almond?
