I got my first shave stick for Christmas and I haven't used it yet because I don't know what to do with it once I take the foil off. It is a speick stick. Do you just leave out in the open, or try to wrap the foil back around it? I am still new to this so don't laugh if my question sounds stupid.

Get a pill bottle from an old prescription and put it in that. Works perfectly. You only need to peel off the top bit of foil to expose the end of the stick and maybe a 1/4 inch more down the sides.

It's fine out of the foil. Just unroll enough to rub on your face and it will be ok. I've had soap sticks for over a year now.
Maybe the only thing you are going to lose is the scent and even that will take a while. The pill bottle is a great idea and Azmark's way is good too.
Be sure to drill a few wholes in the bottle cap. Speick is a superb soap with a very delicate fragrance.
I just keep mine in the original box. While it will loose a bit of scent, the performance will be unaffected.

Leave about half the foil on. It helps so you aren't grasping the soap directly.
Wet face and end of stick, scuff generous amount of soap on beard, lather on face with brush. Occasionally dip tips of brush to wet as you work it a couple of minutes. Repeat for pass two. That should leave plenty of lather in the brush knot for a third pass.
Sticks are great, and the Speick is one of the best.

I love Speick, but hate shave sticks. An alternative for you if you decide the stick isn't your cup of tea, is to grate the shave stick into a mug/bowl with a cheese grater and then smash it down. In short, make a soap puck out of it and use it as such. I do this and it works fine.
I just leave the foil on mine. I unwrap it to shave and wrap it back up. It isn't perfect, and parts of the stick will still be exposed. I haven't been using it very long, though, so I don't know the true effects on the scent. It won't affect performance, though.
Let us know when you give it a go. I'll be interested to find out what you think about it. In my opinion, that Speick is the best stuff you have in your arsenal so far. The Bigelow I gave you is pretty good, too, but I like Speick better.

I took all the foil off mine....next one I will likely just peel it off as I need too.

You can also use snack size ziploc bags for storage. Just make sure the stick has had a chance to dry before sealing the bag.
I always remove all of the foil before using and the scent is fine on all of my shave sticks.

This is a great idea, guys. Anyone know how to get a couple of those empty pill bottles? I haven't been prescribed anything in nearly 8 years. (Which I'm certainly not complaining about!)
Just about any pharmacy will likely give you a bottle or two....take your stick in and start up a conversation.
