Shave Stick Availability

I've been reading that a shave stick is great for traveling. Is there local sources for those? I've never seen them, but then again, I never looked for them.

Buying online is great, but stuff like this I like to be able to pick up locally... Oh.. and being a guy, I hate the mall. Something from Walmart.. Walgreens etc. would be great.

Your choices for shave sticks in the US is very limited if you limit yourself to brick and mortar stores. There is Pasteur's in NYC and Merz in Chicago. That is literally it. I would just bite the bullet and order them online if I were in your position. Mama Bear's and Honeybee Soaps are US based, both soaps are of the melt and pour variety. There are several online retailers that sell the European tallow-based sticks, Connaught from the UK being one.

What is local for you? Your profile does not say where you are located. You might want to update this so that you can receive better (more location centered) help from other members.

To update your location profile:

1) Click Settings at the top of the page
2) On the left sidebar under My Settings click Edit Profile
3) Scroll down and enter a general location (how specific you want to get is up to you)

Let us know what is "local" for you and you will get some suggestions.

I have a great wet shaving shop within walking distance of my house but it might not be within walking distance for you :001_smile

So... you have a shaving shop within walking distance of "Lost in the Lather"???:biggrin1:

Thanks for the instruction, it was not necessary but you obviously have good intentions. I'll add a generic location... I'll guarantee there's no shaving shops walking distance from me... :biggrin1:

What I should have said was "brick and mortar" or "chain" stores. I travel for work a lot and being able to pick up consumables at some store in a strip mall I'm driving by is what I'd like.

Here is local option
Buy a puck of VDH and a big twist up glue stick from Walmart. Remove the glue and wash the stick out, screw it back down and dry it out. Grate the VDH puck with a cheese grater and mash it into the glue stick.

Better option-

Thank you for that suggestion. Very clever. :biggrin1:

I take it from that you are saying there is no ready to go option other than buying over teh intrawebs.

Yep, but also keep in mind that the VDH will melt with a couple of 10-15 second bursts in the microwave. Walgreens carries the luxury VDH as well. Melt and pour into your favorite container. I mix mine with other good stuff, too, before I pour it into the twistups. Like kiss my face and cornhuskers lotion. It softens it up a little and makes it even better, IMO. But that is another thread to search for.

You WILL have to order online. Virtually no brick & mortar stores carry shave sticks.

Isn't that a fact. As I said, there are literally two brick and mortar stores in the US that sell shave sticks. Merz in Chicago is likely easier to get to by car than Pasteur's in NYC, NYC is notorious for not having accessible parking for retail customers as most people travel by taxi or subway there. However, Pasteur's has more selection than Merz.
