Shatner's Rocket man

LOL I don't understand Shatner. He seems to teeter totter between comic almost genius and complete idiot in the most haphazard fashion.

hrm... I saw the Family Guy that referenced this bit... but I had no idea it was something from so long ago.

My favorite Shatner music video:

I give Shatner credit for becoming a musical joke, then cutting an album with Ben Folds that is actually quite good. Most mere mortals would merely hang their heads in shame after something like "Rocket Man", but Shatner thrives on the ability to make fun of himself.

His co-star, Nimoy, cut records but he hardly ever gets ridiculed for them..."The ballad of Bilbo Baggins" is at least as awful as any Shatner tune.

Most non singing celebs of the era did a little dabbling in music, and some had chart success. Lorne Greene, anyone?

This little spoken word tune went to #1 on the Billboard hot 100 in 1964.

I was under the assumption that he was loaded up on cocaine when he recorded these songs. Maybe I'm wrong, but it wouldn't suprise me. I find Mr. Tambourine Man to be the funniest of them all.
