I have seen posts where people refer to settings 8-9 or 12 on the Futur. Mine only goes up to 6. Has there been a change?

I think they're referring to when the head is unlocked (same way you take it apart, but not all the way). It allows for a very large blade gap.
+1. Just push down on the top plate and you can twist it past 6.

Yikes! I've never even gone above 3! These folks may as well put a blade in a clothes pin and scrape their beards off. Why would anyone take apart the Futur?
To clean and maintain it. The adjustment mechanism is also stick when brand new. Taking it apart to oil it may make the adjustment mechanism smoother. I remember many a sliced thumb trying to adjust the head while the razor and my hands were wet.
Watch your fingers and thumb when you have a blade in it and decide to "fiddle" with the adjustment. I got a great deal on one when it sat in a pool of blood while the previous owner was at the emergency room having their little "whoops" taken care of

You need to disassemble it occasionally to clean the gunk out just like with any razor. Since the adjustment plate comes out the Futur is easy to keep clean.
As stated just make sure you go past the stop when reassembling so that you get back to reasonable sanity with your blade exposure settings

If that were truly the "ultimate" experience. wouldn't it be with a Feather blade?
That looks to be a NOS Schick Platinum blade, I used those blades for several years and found them to be excellent blades.
As for the "ultimate" experience, I don't think I want to try a bare blade on a stick. I need some aggression to a razor but don't have the manual dexterity to handle a bare blade on a stick.

I never Adjust the Futur with a blade in it after all these sad stories, I make the Adjustment, Then Pop the blade in it, Yes its that Simple.
