Semogue- Is this normal for boar?

I am breaking in and loving my new Semogue 1305 over the past 2 weeks. However, I notice there are quite a few fly-away hairs flaring out from the main bulb. Is this normal for boar?

In a word, yes. Badger tends to fan very evenly, while boar tends to have a few odd hairs hanging out a bit. Doesn't seem to affect performance.

Yup. Totally normal. I do lightly brush mine on a towel after shaking/squeezing out the excess water. This fans the brush out even more (and I figure encourages break-in).

Noticed that on my Semogue 830. Not in evidence in any of the other boars I've owned (Omega, Boreal, Kent etc). I think the knot size on the Semogues is a little smaller than on an Omega containing a similar amount of bristle, causing them to splay more.

That is to say, Semogues are denser? The few I've had were denser than my Omega 49.

Yup...love the look...it reminds me of a nutty professor or Einstein or something...hairs going every which way!

BTW...enjoy the 1305...mine is better than some of my Badgers!

And more evenly

Just like I said in another thread, asymmetry is also beauty.

I also use a rough textured towel to dry them after use and it seems to keep them looking more even. I found boar does take a while to reach its potential :001_smile

I must say yours is holding it's shape well compared to my SOC brush.
Looks like I broke mine in with a firecracker....
As stated, no problems with performance, and when wet...looks great.
I just marked it up to the way the brush breaks.
Good to get confirmation though...great question.

Well, maybe, but that's not really what I meant. Perhaps at the base the Semogue knot would be denser, but at the tips its splays and 'breeches' very readily, as though the outer bristle is packed in at a more acute angle, perhaps. The 830 is very nice in that way, but a bit unboarlike to me, almost like a soft badger brush.
