Sebago Docksides or Allen Edmonds boat shoes?

cool.

Oh man, I love both brands - but I am wearing the Docksides in Brown Elk right now. They are the bees knees of summer shoe; I have strayed in the past (LL Bean, Sperry Cabo, Sperry Billfish, Sperry Topsider) but never again.

They have the true classic boat shoe look and profile, wear like iron, pair with jeans, khakis and short (sockless always) - and there is a pretty good color palate (if you are into that).

The AE Eastports have a three eyelet lacing system - a little too casual shoe vs boat shoe for me. (full disclosure: I have 12 pairs of the dress shoes). Plus, the extra $75 puts you within spitting distance of 2:1 purchasing power (maybe dead even if you shop around on the web)

Where would you recommend me buying the docksides?

My friend

Look at Oak street bootmakers in Chicago. A nice looking boat shoe as well.
Also look at Rancourt in Maine, and Quoddy.
These are all very, very nice. ALL MADE IN USA still.
Rancourt does a cordovan shell in their mocassin loafer.

I, like for the buck, the LL Bean ones, some last forever. Some do not. Made overseas, of course.
So is the ALLEN EDUMNDS. Allen edmunds main line are made in Maine.
The rest are mexico I believe.
The leather, is best not in the US, I am told.

IIMO, if you want american, you will like the oak street or rancourt.
150 bucks.
I, paid 49 dollars on my LL beans, nice look.
Again, allend edmunds, is not a national USA maker any more.
I WOULD NOT BUY ALLEN EDMUNDS, just to let you know.
I am an alden fan all my life, I got their dress mainline shoe, was not happy.
AE has many, many shoe lasts, that can be confusing.
If you get oak street, they are made by Rancourt am told, or Quoddy.
Long freaking story short.
LL BEAN, onsale, cheap, you want to destroy the shoe.
Go for it
Nice day kid

Jimmy

Good Luck

My friend,

Also, if you look at Brooks Brothers, RJ Polo.
Their boat shoes, when it states made in USA, are by Rancourt. ON sale a nice buy, have an old pair of the Brooks.
Rancourt worked with AE, and went on his own.
He is a bit pricey in his loafers, and moccasins.
Boat shoes about 150 bucks.
I am a fan, especially with shoes, get an american maker.
They are becomming very, very limited.
FUI
1 Alden, all shoes.
2 Allen Edmunds, mainline in the USA, you have to search from them to get a true answer. Most other shoes made in Mexico.
3 Rancourt USA
4 Oak Street made in USA ( Rancourt)
5 Quaddy a nice shoe, made in USA.
Again, have worn these all my life, my advice, go cheap, get a nice look.

I wore sperry 40 plus years ago, it is not that nice compared to a cheap LL Bean, or Timberland for that matter.
You have to decide
Good Luck
Sorry, just recently bought a couple pairs, so am updated

Nice day my friend
Jimmy

I've had a pair of AE Eastports for about 5 years. Haven't had any problems. As a matter of fact, I haven't had a problem with any of my AE shoes.

Ok, my shoes arrived and they are pretty sweet. I usually wear a 12 1/2 wide...so I ordered a 12 double wide. The shoes seem a little bit large...almost reminds me of wearing flip flops. My heel slips out of the shoes when walking...is this normal? Sorry for the goof questions, I've never owned a pair of boat shoes before so I'm not sure how loose they should be.

No, that isnt right. I think that you may have overshot your size by a bit. I wear a 10D and they fit true-to-size, so the question for you is: Is the length correct? The excess width is making them feel like flip-flops, but if the length is correct for you it is easy to size down to a std wide.

If the shoe is too cramped in the toe, you know to go 13W

By the way - I practically blew out my mouse following that link to Amazon. I have a Navy/Green Spinnaker and a Navy Docksider in my cart....only one can be bought

@Tim, thanks for the advise. I went ahead and ordered all the size 12 shoes and a 11 wide. I'll return what doesn't fit...I can't wait to get one that works.
